GENEVA, Ohio — The Wagner Swimming and Diving teams wrapped up their first day of competition at the NEC Championships. The Seahawks came away with three 3rd-place finishes out of the first six events.
The first event where Wagner reached the podium was the women's 200-yard medley relay. Sophomores
Lovisa Ramsten and
Mia Goodale joined seniors
Lia Vendel and
Sophia Varon-Fowler to place 3rd in the event with a 1:43.24 time, less than two seconds behind the winners from Howard.
The Seahawks reached two more podiums in both the men's and women's 800-yard freestyle relay. On the men's side, sophomore's
Florian Schumich and
Ben McLaughlin, along with seniors
Ruben Van Gool and
Brayden Schaeffer, finished 3rd in the event with a 6.43:58 time. On the women's side, Goodale joined fellow sophomore
Gaya Savran, and juniors
Brooke Woolfe and Daniela Moreno to swim a 7:37.61, good enough for 3rd place.
After the first day of competition, the men's team sits in third place, and the women's team sits in fourth. The standings after day 1 are shown below.

The Seahawks will return to the pool tomorrow, Feb. 17, for day 2 of the NEC Championships. The preliminary races will start at 10 a.m., while the finals will begin at 6 p.m.
