STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Seahawks have arrived at the end of the offseason and eye an opening series on the road at Virginia this weekend to start the 2026 season.
The Schedule
Wagner has 51 games on the schedule for 2026, with the potential for more should the team make the 2026 NEC Tournament for a fourth consecutive year.
The 2026 schedule release can be found here. It features 32 road games with 19 at home, with Wagner taking on 23 different opponents. Eight games will be played midweek and there will be 14 weekend series, with 11 of those being conference series.
Opening 2026
The Seahawks hit the road for a series at Virginia to open the 2026 season, heading to Charlottesville, Virginia to take on the Atlantic Coast Conference's Cavaliers. Wagner is taking on a team that went 32-18 overall and 16-11 in the ACC in 2025, but in 2026 Virginia is reshaped into a new team under the leadership of head coach Chris Pollard in his first season.
Pollard brings a majority of staff over from Duke, his previous stop, as well as seven players in addition to a class of ten transfers. The Cavaliers have been picked No. 14 in Baseball America's preseason poll.
Wagner has been picked to finish third in the NEC, sitting behind reigning champion CCSU with six votes and second-place LIU with five. Fifth-place FDU was the only other team to receive a first-place vote.
2025 In Review
Last season, the Seahawks finished third in the NEC after going 1-2 in the NEC Tournament, earning the No. 2 seed. The team fell in the opening round to No. 3 CCSU, took down No. 4 Stonehill in the quarterfinal to stay alive then fell to No. 1 LIU in the semifinal. CCSU went on to defeat LIU and played in the NCAA's Auburn Regional.
Wagner finished with a 31-22 record with series wins over Merrimack, Norfolk State, Coppin State, Stonehill, Le Moyne, UMES, CCSU, FDU and Delaware State. In NEC play, the Seahawks were 23-7. A pair of Seahawks were named All-NEC first team, with three earning a spot on the second team.
Now in the NEC
A new addition to the NEC for the 2026 season, the New Haven Chargers will take the spot of a non-NEC series the Seahawks would typically have. Instead of taking on a team out of conference like Wagner did in 2025 with NJIT, this season will feature 11 NEC series. A road trip to West Haven, Connecticut to take on the Chargers will be the fourth conference series for Wagner.
Returning Talent
Graduate outfielder Lukas Torres is back for a sixth year with the Seahawks, a reliable leadoff man who has been named the nation's N0. 124 outfielder by D1 Baseball. Torres was an All-NEC second team selection and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Junior Joseph Mennella brings power for Wagner, an All-NEC second teamer who led the team in home runs in 2025 from the designated hitter slot. Perfect Game has Mennella as a guy to watch to potentially be their NEC Player of the Year selection.
Eyeing a big sophomore campaign is middle infielder Matt Sutera, who was Wagner's third representative on the All-NEC second team after earning four NEC Rookie of the Week honors in 2025. Perfect Game has Sutera listed as their No. 3 2027 MLB Draft prospect for the NEC.
Senior pitcher Colin Trizuto is Wagner's returner from the 2025 weekend rotation, a righty who carried a load in his junior season, throwing 61.2 innings. He will be a strong foundation to build a rotation around.
Junior outfielder Diego Tavarez and senior utility player Nicholas Mazzotta round out Wagner's contingent of returning players from the 2025 lineup. Perfect Game lists Mazzotta as their No. 7 MLB prospect out of the NEC for the class of 2026. Mennella joins Mazzotta on the list at No. 15.
Junior catcher Christian Knight appeared in 29 games last season with 13 starts, so he is no stranger behind the dish. He finished with a .286 batting average, logging 14 hits and working 15 walks.
Torres, Sutera, Mazzotta and Trizuto were named to Perfect Game's Preseason All-NEC team. Wagner returns 23 total players from its 2025 roster. A full release on the returners can be found here.
Fresh Faces
Head coach Craig Noto adds 12 freshmen and 10 transfers this season, with 10 pitchers and 12 position players arriving on Grymes Hill. A full breakdown of the class of freshmen can be found here. A full preview of the incoming class of transfers can be found here.
Wagner will be looking to fill out its weekend pitching rotation beyond the return of Trizuto, as well as a closer role to build on what Mazzotta offers with the departure of Jason Masick, who led the Seahawks with six saves in 2025.
Freshman Chase Brandt was named the No. 2 MLB Draft prospect for the NEC's Class of 2028. Brandt is a lefty out of Mullica Hill, New Jersey who spent his playing time at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School.
Two Canadians join the squad in junior Evan McRae and redshirt junior Jeff Tiw. McRae and Tiw are the first Canadians on a Wagner baseball roster since Ryan Van Spronsen of Brantford, Ontario in 2012.
Wagner opens its season on Friday, Feb. 12 at Virginia's Davenport Field at Disharoon Park. First pitch for game one will be at 3 p.m. EST.
