STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College women's basketball team travels to FDU on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Bogota Saving Bank Center.
Wagner (10-10, 6-3 NEC) has emerged victorious in its last four NEC games for the first time since 2022-23 when the Seahawks started the season 6-0. Most recently, the Green & White took down CCSU on Thursday by a score of 63-44.
Wagner allowed only four points to CCSU in the fourth quarter, while scoring 13 as a team. The Seahawks outscored the Blue Devils 26-16 in points off turnovers during the four quarters. The Green & White shared the ball well during the game, earning 15 assists compared to CCSU's seven.
Redshirt junior Klea Kaci led the way with 14 points on 50.0% (4-8) from beyond-the-arc. Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya followed with 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Sophomore Keana Foz scored nine points with four rebounds, two assists, and four steals redshirt senior Priscila Varela scored eight points to go along with five assists and four steals.
As a team the Seahawks rank atop the NEC in steals per game with 9.89, first in opponent three-point percent holding other squads to 27.4% from beyond-the-arc. Wagner ranks second in the conference in blocks per game with 3.56 since the start of NEC action.
Since the start of the new year, Foz ranks fourth in steals per game within the NEC at 2.4 steals per contest.
Since the start of conference play, senior Hawa Balde-Camara sits third in the conference in blocks per game with 1.3. Both Foz and Balde-Camara ended last season in first place in their respective categories.
The Seahawks were picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
Last time out, FDU (18-4, 9-0 NEC) defeated Stonehill by a score of 78-54 on Thursday. Stephanie Gaitley runs the helm of the FDU coaching staff and is in her third full season with the Knights.
Sophomore Ava Renninger leads the Knights' offense averaging 13.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Kailee McDonald follows with 12.3 points per game and 4.7 rebounds.
Among the NEC, FDU ranks first in scoring defense allowing only 52.4 points per game. FDU was picked first in the NEC preseason coaches poll.
The FDU Knights are on a 28-game win streak against NEC opponents in the regular season.
FDU's last NEC regular season loss was on February 24, 2024 against Le Moyne — 707 days ago. Earlier this month, the Knights defeated the Seahawks, 56-46, at the Spiro Sports Center.
The all-time record between these two programs is 37-51 in favor of the Knights. The last win Wagner had against FDU was back on Feb. 24, 2022. Wagner is 1-12 in its last 13 matchups with FDU.
After taking on the Knights, Wagner heads to Le Moyne for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, Feb. 5 at Ted Grant Court.
