STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College women's basketball team hosts CCSU for a 5 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Spiro Sports Center.
Wagner (9-10, 5-3 NEC) has emerged victorious in its last three NEC games, most recently taking down LIU on Saturday by a score of 59-54.
The Seahawks trailed 30-20 at the break, but would go on to outscore the Sharks 39-24 in the second half to snag the five-point road win.
Junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor scored a team-high 19 points, 12 in the first half, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya added 12 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Keana Foz chipped in 11 points.
Redshirt senior Priscila Varela scored eight points while redshirt junior Klea Kaci added seven.
The Seahawks grabbed 37 rebounds compared to the Sharks' 30 rebounds, outscoring LIU 10-7 in second chance points throughout the game.
Since the start of conference play, the Seahawks rank atop the NEC in steals per game with 9.26 and second in the conference in blocks per game with 3.26.
Since the start of the new year, Foz ranks third in steals per game within the NEC at 2.1 steals per contest.
Senior Hawa Balde-Camara sits second in the conference in blocks per game with 1.0. Both Foz and Balde-Camara ended last season in first place in their respective categories.
The Seahawks were picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
Last time out, CCSU (0-19, 0-8 NEC) defeated Stonehill by a score of 72-59 on Thursday. Kristin Caruso runs the helm of the CCSU coaching staff and is in her first full season with the Blue Devils.
Senior Lucia Noin leads the Blue Devils' offense averaging 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Freshman Kiyah Lewis follows with 11.9 points per game.
Among the NEC, CCSU ranks third in free throw percentage, making 73.5% of its attempts this season. CCSU was picked fifth in the NEC preseason coaches poll.
After taking on the Blue Devils, Wagner heads to FDU for a 2 p.m. tip-off at the Bogota Saving Bank Center on Jan. 31.
