Bridgewater, NJ — Wagner College senior Bryce Phelps from baseball and junior Elisa Parazzi from women's track and field have been named as the Northeast Conference's Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year for their respective sports, the conference announced on Tuesday.
This is the first time a Wagner baseball player has earned the honor after Nick Mascelli did the same for the spring 2018 semester. Parazzi is the latest Seahawk to earn the honor for Wagner's women's outdoor track and field season after Tiffany Hanna did the same in the spring 2021 semester.
A native of Denver, Iowa, Phelps logged a .399 batting average as starting right fielder for the Seahawks in his senior season. He took home NEC Player of the Week honors in the first week of the season and earned one of Wagner's two All-NEC first team honors to round out the regular season.
Phelps logged a 3.7 GPA for spring 2025 in his final semester as a Seahawk and graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports administration in May. He finished with a cumulative 3.8 GPA.
Parazzi, from Angera, Italy, also earned All-NEC first team honors for Wagner's women's track and field team for her performance in the high jump. She logged a 1.63-meter clearance at the NEC Outdoor Championships to earn gold in the event. Her performance added to a team score that helped the Seahawks win the program's first outdoor championship.
A massive performer in the classroom, Parazzi finished her spring semester with a 4.0 GPA to continue maintaining her perfect 4.0 GPA through her academic career at Wagner. She is double majoring in international affairs and politics, with minors in history and human rights.
Phelps and Parazzi mark the third and fourth Seahawks to be named NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for their respective sports after juniors Julio Martinez and Ruben Van Gool from men's track and field and men's swimming and diving, respectively, were given the same honors for the winter season.
Along with Phelps and Parazzi, 200 Seahawks earned spots on the Spring Academic Honor Roll by posting a GPA of 3.20 or higher. Among them, 72 achieved even greater distinction, landing on the Commissioner's Honor Roll with a stellar GPA of 3.75 or above.
