Track & Field Teams Wrap Up First Day At NEC Outdoor Championships

Easton, Mass. — Both Wagner track and field teams sit in the top five after the first day of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships.

The men's team sits in second with a 39.50 score. Central Connecticut leads the way with a 72 team score. The Wagner women are sitting in fifth with 36 points, just ten points behind the lead in a close pack after day one.

Twelve events had finals on day one and Wagner brought home six medals, including three gold, between its two teams.

The women's 4x800-meter relay team set a new conference record with their 9:05.91 time to win the event. Junior Angelina Olah, Magui Calvo-Jorge, junior Laura Trenado and senior Gia Comerford combined to add ten points for the Wagner women.

Sophomore Rylee Ferretti opened the day with a win in the 10,000-meter run, logging a 36:27.18 time to take home gold and add ten points to the Seahawks' total. Freshman Kate Connolly's 41:59.51 finish put her in fifth, which added four more team points.

Junior Christopher Milillo won the men's hammer throw with a 59.65-meter throw on his sixth attempt of the day to add ten points to the men's team total. Senior Adrian Pocesta also finished fourth with a 53.60-meter throw, adding five team points.

In the men's 10,000-meter run, senior Maxime Ricci's 32:24.87 time earning him a silver medal and eight points toward the team total. Junior Michael Ryan joined him in the top ten, finishing eighth with a 33:12.58 time.

Junior Franklin Simms brings home bronze in shot put with a 15.85-meter throw, tacking on six points to the men's team score. The men's 4x800-meter relay adds bronze as well, with senior Johnny Sokoll, freshman Ignacio San Juan, junior Hunter Longo and sophomore Eric Marquez running a 7:49.32 to finish third and add six more team points.

Sophomore Branden Coleman adds 3.5 points to the team total in high jump, logging a 1.93-meter clearance to tie with Stonehill's Keagan Fletcher.

Freshman Mia Petersen finished fourth in the women's long jump with a 5.62-meter jump, adding five points for the team. In the pole vault, junior Saranda Capani's 3.10-meter clearance put her in sixth, with senior Aileen Hoban adding a 2.95-meter clearance to finish ninth.

Sophomore Dayana Rodriguez had a 47.63-meter hammer throw for a fifth place finish, adding four points to the team total.

Day 2 Finals

Milillo and Simms both have a chance at another medal, each competing in the discus throw on Sunday.

In the men's triple jump, sophomore Khalid Brown, freshman Matthew Menechino, freshman Ty Lawless and freshman Lasana Darboe are listed for the Seahawks in flight one, joined by sophomore Jack Mason and senior Kharlin Watkins in flight two.

Junior Julio Martinez and freshman Amir Shockry will compete in pole vault. Sophomore Michael Seawright represents Wagner in the 400-meter hurdles.

Freshman Florian Hinry and Sokoll will compete in the 1,500-meter run. San Juan will be Wagner's representative in the 800-meter run. Marquez, Ricci, Ryan and Sokoll will all compete in the 5,000-meter run final on Sunday.

Freshman Julio Tatis and junior Arjanvir Singh both qualified for the 400-meter dash finals. Tatis also advances to the 200-meter dash final.

Wagner's men and women will run both the 4x100-meter and the 4x400-meter relays.

Senior Ruth-Ann Chambers will compete in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Christine Manneh joins Chambers in the 100-meter dash finals. Sophomore June Fernandez will run in the 400-meter finals.

In the women's 1,500-meter run, junior Laura Trenado, Calvo-Jorge and sophomore Victoria Dziubela advance to Sunday's finals. Calvo-Jorge, Olah, Trenado and graduate Ana Blanco Duran will all compete in the 800-meter run finals.

Angela Cavalieri and Comerford will run the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Ferretti and Comerford will both advance to the 5,000-meter run final.

In the women's triple jump, freshman Madison Maxwell, senior Agathe Yabit and sophomore Victoria Gontowicz represent the Seahawks in flight one, with junior Julia Garcia and Petersen joining in flight two.

Senior Madison Petricevic will represent Wagner in the women's javelin. Freshman Ariel Kovach and junior Elisa Parazzi will compete in high jump for the Seahawks.
