Women’s Basketball Hosts Home Finale Against FDU On Saturday

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team will welcome FDU for its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its sixth consecutive contest with a 55-46 loss to Le Moyne at the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday night. Graduate student Taleah Washington led the way offensively for Wagner with 15 points on 5-11 shooting from the field.

Freshman Kiera Edmonds grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, seven of which were offensive. Defensively the Seahawks earned 10 steals as junior Paige Lyons paced Wagner with four.

The Arrival Of Kiera Edmonds
After recording back-to-back double-doubles last week, Kiera Edmonds picked up her second Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week honor on Monday.

Edmonds poured in a career-high 22 points at Central Connecticut State on February 22 to go along with 11 rebounds. Edmonds's nine field goals made were also a career-high. Edmonds then scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on February 24 at LIU.

Through conference play, the Brooklyn, NY native is averaging a team-high 9.7 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Edmonds has scored in double figures in five out of the last seven games and has recorded double-digit rebounds in five consecutive games. 

Rakisha Ballinger Doing It All
Junior Rakisha Ballinger has scored eight or more points in four out of the last five games. During the five-game stretch, the Hyattsville, MD native has recorded 13 steals. Ballinger has recorded three or more steals in a game on nine separate occasions this season.

Ballinger ranks third on the Seahawks with 8.4 points per game and paces the Seahawks with 2.5 steals per contest.

Defensive DNA
The Green & White have recorded double-digit steals in 12 games this season. Wagner has had multiple players record multiple steals in 17 out of 26 games this season and in 10 out of 14 NEC contests.

Wagner ranks 61st in the nation and first in the NEC with 9.4 steals per game. The Seahawks also rank 51st in the nation and first in the NEC with 18.88 turnovers forced per game.

Ballinger ranks 37th in the nation with 2.5 steals per game.

Fabozzi And Sanchez-Henry Return 
Senior Julia Fabozzi made her return to the court against Saint Francis U on February 15 after having ACL surgery on August 4.
Last season, Fabozzi appeared in all 28 games while notching 17 starts.

The Staten Island, NY native averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during the 2022-23 season.

In her third game back in the lineup at Central Connecticut State on February 22, Fabozzi scored five points on 2-3 shooting while grabbing two rebounds.

Marisa Sanchez-Henry returned to the court against LIU on February 24 after tearing her ACL on February 9, 2023 against St. Francis Brooklyn.

Sanchez-Henry tallied three points and three assists against Le Moyne in her second game back to the court.

Noo The Glue
Taleah "Noo" Washington ranks second in the NEC and 146th in the nation with 3.8 assists per contest.

Washington tallied a career-high 29 points against LIU on January 8, the most for a Seahawk since Emilija Krista Grava netted 32 back on March 5, 2021.

Washington is second on the Seahawks with 9.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game through NEC play. Through 12 NEC appearances, Washington has recorded over five assists on five separate occasions. Washington has also grabbed five or more rebounds in seven out of 11 conference appearances.

Senior Day
Prior to tip-off the Seahawks will honor five members of the program. Cyan Dyke, Maite Lara Garcia, Julia Fabozzi, and Marisa Sanchez-Henry will all be honored prior to tip-off.

Scouting FDU
FDU enters the Spiro Sports Center with a 11-16 overall record and a 9-5 mark in NEC play.

The Knights are 3-10 away from the Bogota Savings Bank Center this season and have clinched a spot in the NEC Tournament with two games remaining in the regular season.

The Series
Wagner is 17-30 all-time against FDU, the Seahawks will look to snap a three-game losing streak against the Knights. Wagner is 9-14 against FDU at the Spiro Sports Center.

Last Time Against FDU
The Knights earned a 62-53 win against the Seahawks on February 9. Taleah Washington led all Seahawks with 15 points on 5-11 shooting from the field. Kiera Edmonds also scored in double figures with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.
