Women’s Basketball Set For Nationally Televised Clash At FDU

Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College women's basketball team will travel to FDU on Friday night, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm on ESPNU.

Last Time Out
Wagner earned a wire-to-wire 63-55 win over Stonehill on Saturday, February 3. The win for Wagner was its second consecutive at the Spiro Sports Center and its second win in the last three games.

The Seahawks held the Skyhawks to 28.1 percent shooting from the field and 20 percent shooting from three-point range.

Stonehill's 28.1 percent shooting from the field was the lowest shooting percentage against Wagner in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
 
As a team, the Seahawks had 13 steals, including four players with two or more steals. Junior Rakisha Ballinger led the way with four steals, freshman Shamique Cummings had three steals, and juniors Semie Brar and Paige Lyons had two.

Wagner had four players score in double-digits as Rakisha Ballinger, Shamique Cummings, and Kiera Edmonds all had 13 points.

As a team, the Green & White shot 44.8 percent from the floor.

Defensive DNA
Wagner held Stonehill to 5-34 shooting from the floor and 1-13 shooting from three-point range in the first half. Wagner ranks 18th in the nation and first in the NEC with 12.0 steals per game.

The Green & White have recorded double-digit steals in nine games this season. Wagner has had multiple players record multiple steals in 14 out of 20 games this season and in seven out of eight conference games.

Wagner ranks 17th in the nation and first in the NEC in field goal percentage defense. The Seahawks are holding opponents to 32.2 shooting from the field. Wagner also ranks 55th in the nation in scoring defense. Opponents are averaging 55.5 points per game against the Green & White.

Junior Rakisha Ballinger ranks 46th in the nation with 3.0 steals per game. 

Wagner also ranks 55th in the nation and first in the NEC with 4.5 blocks per game, freshman Drew Jordon ranks 117th in the nation and fourth in the NEC with 1.5 blocks per game.

The Emergence Of Shamique Cummings
In her first career start, Shamique Cummings made an immediate impact against Stonehill.

Cummings scored a career-high 13 points to go along with a career-high seven rebounds. Cummings scored Wagner's first four points of the contest while tallying three steals.
The Montreal, Quebec native shot 5-7 from the floor while four out of her seven rebounds were offensive.

In 19 minutes of action at Le Moyne on February 1, Cummings was a +17 in a box plus/minus.

Semie Brar Continues To Impress
Semie Brar leads the Seahawks with 10.1 points per game, the Fresno, CA native has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.

Brar tallied 15 points at Le Moyne before scoring 10 against Stonehill. 
Brar has notched 20-plus points in three games this season. She had a career-high 26 points against Iona on November 27.

On the defensive side of the court, Brar is averaging 3.0 steals per game. Brar's steals per game ranks 46th in the nation.

Noo The Glue
Graduate student Taleah "Noo" Washington ranks 28th in the nation with 6.5 assists per game. Washington recorded a career-high 29 points on January 8, the most since former Seahawk Emilija Krista Grava netted 32 on March 5, 2021.

Washington leads the Seahawks with 9.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game through NEC play.

Through six NEC appearances, Washington has recorded over five assists on four separate occasions. She also has grabbed five or more rebounds in five out of six conference appearances. 

The District Heights, MD native has recorded five steals over the last two games.

Contributions From The Bench 
Wagner's 23.0 bench points per game ranks 65th in the nation and first in the NEC. Wagner has had a player come off the bench and score in double figures on nine separate occasions this season.

The Seahawks have had two players come off the bench and score in double figures twice this season.

Scouting FDU
FDU welcomes Wagner with a 7-14 overall record and a 5-3 mark in NEC play. The Knights are 6-4 at the Bogota Savings Bank Center.

After winning back-to-back regular season titles, the Knights are under the direction of first-year head coach Stephanie Gaitley.

FDU shoots the 11th-most three-pointers in the nation per game with 30.0. Despite shooting the 11th-most three pointers per game, the Knights rank 178th in the nation with a 30.0 three-point shooting percentage.

FDU's three-point percentage defense is fifth in the nation, the Knights are holding opponents to an 11.1 three-point shooting percentage.

On the defensive side of the ball, FDU ranks 90th in the nation with 17.0 turnovers forced per game.

FDU was picked fourth in the NEC preseason poll.

The Series
Wagner is 17-29 against FDU all-time and is 8-15 on the road. The Knights have won seven out of the last eight games, Wagner is 0-2 in Teaneck, NJ under head coach Terrell Coburn.

Last Season Against FDU
FDU earned two victories in as many tries last season against Wagner.

The Knights earned a 67-50 win at the Spiro Sports Center before earning a 78-52 win at the former Stratis Arena at the Rothman Center.

Wagner will welcome Saint Francis U to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday, February 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
