Women’s Basketball Hosts Le Moyne On ESPN+ On Thursday

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team will welcome Le Moyne on Thursday at 7:00 pm on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its fifth consecutive contest with a 70-65 overtime loss at LIU on Saturday. Trailing 40-24 at halftime, Wagner outscored LIU 17-7 in the third quarter which brought the Seahawks to within six entering the fourth quarter. 

Down 59-52 with 2:34 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wagner launched a 7-0 run to force overtime.

LIU outscored Wagner 11-6 in overtime to earn the victory.

The Arrival Of Kiera Edmonds
After recording back-to-back double-doubles last week, freshman Kiera Edmonds picked up her second Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week honor.

Edmonds poured in a career-high 22 points at Central Connecticut State to go along with 11 rebounds. Edmonds's nine field goals made were also a career-high.

Edmonds scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds at LIU in Wagner's second game of the week. Edmonds averaged 16.5 points and 11.5 rebounds over the last two contests.

Through conference play, the Brooklyn, NY native is averaging a team-high 10.2 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Edmonds has scored in double figures in five out of the last six games and has recorded double-digit rebounds in four consecutive games.

Rakisha Ballinger Doing It All
Junior Rakisha Ballinger has scored eight or more points in four consecutive games. During that four-game stretch, the Hyattsville, MD native has recorded 10 steals.

Ballinger has recorded five or more steals four times this season, including 12 against Saint Elizabeth on December 30.

Ballinger ranks third on the Seahawks with 8.6 points per game and paces the Seahawks with 2.5 steals per contest.

Defensive DNA
The Green & White has recorded double-digit steals in 11 games this season. Wagner has had multiple players record multiple steals in 16 out of 25 games this season and in nine out of 13 NEC contests.

Wagner ranks 62nd in the nation and first in the NEC with 9.4 steals per game. The Seahawks also rank 51st in the nation and first in the NEC with 18.88 forced turnovers per game.
Ballinger ranks 37th in the nation with 2.50 steals per game.

Fabozzi And Sanchez-Henry Return 
Senior Julia Fabozzi made her return to the court against Saint Francis U on February 15 after having ACL surgery on August 4. Last season, Fabozzi appeared in all 28 games while notching 17 starts. The Staten Island, NY native averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season.

In her third game of the season, Fabozzi scored five points against Central Connecticut State on 2-3 shooting while grabbing two rebounds.

Marisa Sanchez-Henry returned to the court against LIU on February 24 after tearing her ACL on February 9, 2023 against St. Francis Brooklyn. Sanchez-Henry has made 69 career appearances for the Green & White since 2020-21. The Ellicott, MD native picked up and assist and a steal in her return to the floor.

Noo The Glue
Taleah "Noo" Washington ranks second in the NEC and 147th in the nation with 3.8 assists per contest. Washington tallied a career-high 29 points against LIU on January 8, the most for a Seahawk since Emilija Krista Grava netted 32 back on March 5, 2021.

Washington is second on the Seahawks with 9.1 points and 34.7 rebounds per game through NEC play.

Through 11 NEC appearances, Washington has recorded over five or more rebounds in seven out of 11 conference appearances.

Scouting Le Moyne
Le Moyne enters its contest with Wagner riding a five-game winning streak. In their first season in the NEC, the Dolphins have a 12-2 conference record.

Le Moyne has had three separate win streaks through conference play. It's had a three-game winning streak, a four-game winning streak, and a five-game winning streak. Lytoya Baker leads the Dolphins with 13.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

The Series
Le Moyne is 1-0 against Wagner after earning a 56-45 win in the team's first meeting in Syracuse, NY on February 1. The Seahawks outscored the Dolphins 30-18 in the second half while holding the Dolphins to eight points in the fourth quarter.
Junior Semie Brar scored a team-high 16 points on 4-10 shooting from three-point range. Brar also had five rebounds and four steals.

Wagner will host its final home game of the regular season when they welcome FDU to the Spiro Sports Center on March 2, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
