Women’s Basketball Hosts Central Connecticut State

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team will welcome Central Connecticut State to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday evening, with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner fell to LIU 78-68 to LIU on February 11. 

Redshirt junior Alex Cowan led all Seahawks with 19 points on 7-14 shooting while graduate student Zhaneia Thybulle notched 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Thybulle Makes History
Thybulle's triple-double against LIU was the third in program history and was the first for an NEC player since the 2020-21 season.
 

The triple-double was the 23rd in NCAA Division I this season as her 10 assists was a career-high.

Cowan And Thybulle Continue To Impress
Alex Cowan has scored at least 15 points in three straight games and has scored in double figures in nine out of the last 10 contests for Wagner.

The Bowie, MD native tallied a career-high 26 points against St. Francis Brooklyn on February 9. Cowan has scored at least 20 points on five separate occasions this season.

Thybulle's triple-double against LIU was the first for an NEC player since the 2020-21 season. Thybulle closed out last week averaging 11.5 points, 7.0 assists and 6.5 rebounds.

Thybulle has scored in double figures in seven of the last 10 games.

The Elmont, NY native is shooting 47.0% from the field and 30.0% from three-point range during NEC play.

Both players were named NEC Prime Performers on Monday.

NEC Up To Date
FDU sits atop the NEC standings with a 10-1 record while Sacred Heart checks in behind the Knights at 9-2. St. Francis Brooklyn sits in third with an 8-3 NEC mark while Merrimack is behind the Terriers at 7-5.

Wagner is right behind Merrimack as the Seahawks sit in fifth with a 6-5 NEC record.

Zhaneia Thybulle's 4.3 assists per game and 93 total assists are tops in the NEC. Her 4.3 assists per game ranks 81st in the nation. The Green & White's +5.55 turnover margin is tops in the NEC while its assist to turnover ratio is tied for first with FDU and Stonehill at 0.9.

Last Time Against CCSU
Wagner picked up a 57-52 win at CCSU on January 21, the win moved Wagner to 6-0 in NEC play.

Fifth year senior Kem Nwabudu led all scorers with 16 points to go along with four rebounds.

Alex Cowan and Zhaneia Thybulle each scored in double figures with 11 points as Thybulle tallied five assists and Cowan notched four rebounds.

Scouting CCSU
CCSU enters the Spiro Sports Center with a 7-16 record and a 3-8 mark in NEC play.

In its last contest, the Blue Devils fell to FDU, 81-46. The loss snapped the CCSU's two-game winning streak as they beat Sacred Heart and Hartford during the streak.

Prior to the winning streak, CCSU dropped four consecutive contests as they fell to Wagner, Merrimack, Saint Francis U and St. Francis Brooklyn.

Belle Lanpher ranks sixth in the NEC with 13.1 points per game as Dejah Jenkins ranks 14th with 10.2 points per game.

Lara Rohkohl ranks third with third in the NEC with 7.1 rebounds per game. Meghan Kenefick ranks tied for sixth with 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Rohkohl is tops in the NEC with a 52.3 field goal percentage while Lanpher sits at tied for second with a 46.4 field goal percentage. She also ranks third with 24 blocked shots and 1.1 blocks per game.

Rohkohl sits atop the NEC with 79 total offensive rebounds and 79 total offensive boards. Forever Toppin ranks second in the NEC with 2.3 steals per game and 53 total steals.

As a team, the Blue Devils rank first in the NEC with a 73.1 free-throw percentage.

Wagner will head to Teaneck, NJ to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on ESPN3 and SNY on Saturday, February 18 at 4:00 pm.
