Women’s Basketball To Host LIU On Sunday

Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's basketball team will host Northeast Conference (NEC) in-state rival LIU at the Spiro Sports Center at 3:00 pm on Sunday.

Last Time Out
The Seahawks earned its second win in as many games to open up the NEC season with a 63-61 win over Merrimack on Friday at the Spiro Sports Center.
 
Graduate student Zhaneia Thybulle tallied a career-high 22 points on 9-15 shooting, the Elmont, NY native tallied five rebounds, four blocks and three steals.

Redshirt junior Alex Cowan tallied 15 points including nine in the fourth quarter to go along with seven rebounds.

Zhaneia Thybulle Earns NEC Prime Performer Honors
In Wagner's opening NEC win of the season against Saint Francis U on Monday, January 2, Zhaneia Thybulle tallied 16 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Thybulle shot 7-8 from the floor in 20 minutes played while earning her third NEC Prime Performer honor of the season.
 
Thybulle has recorded double-digit points in the last four games and is shooting 5-8 from three-point range during that span.

Grymes Hill Success
Wagner's win over Merrimack was its fourth consecutive victory at the Spiro Sports Center.

The Seahawks are holding its opponents to 39.0 shooting from the field and 12.1 from beyond the arc.

Wagner is holding its opponents to 58.25 points per game while averaging 68.5.

Last Season Against LIU
In three games against the Sharks last season, the Seahawks earned two victories, including a NEC quarterfinal victory at the Spiro Sports Center.

The quarterfinal win was the first playoff victory under head coach Terrell Coburn.

Zhaneia Thybulle, Alex Cowan, Kem Nwabudu and Drayah Heyward each scored in double figures as Alex Cowan tallied 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Zhaneia Thybulle earned 11 points, four rebounds and four assists while Kem Nwabudu tallied 11 points and brought in eight boards. Drayah Heyward earned 11 points on 4-7 shooting and dished out four assists.

Scouting The Sharks
The Sharks enter Grymes Hill with a 2-12 overall record and a 0-2 mark in NEC play. In its last contest, the Sharks fell against Sacred Heart in its second conference contest of the season.

Entering conference play, the Sharks lost nine straight contests and have now lost 11 consecutive contests.

Junior Ashley Austin leads the Sharks with 11.3 points per game, she is the only player to average double figures for LIU.

What's Next
Wagner will travel to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack for the second time in 10 days on Monday, January 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
