Corel Breaks 26-Year-Old Program Record; Seahawks Conclude Two-Day Monmouth Track and Field Season Opener

West Long Branch, NJ - The Wagner College men's outdoor track and field team concluded the two-day 26th Annual Monmouth Outdoor Home Opener on Saturday. 
 
Michael Pepe went on to finish first in the discus, with a throw of 52.29m. Teammate Corey Durden placed sixth with a mark of 42.95m  

Durden placed fourth in the hammer throw with a launch of 46.06m. Pepe and Adrian Pocesta finished among the top-15 with tosses of 39.62m and 39.30m, respectively. 
 
The Seahawks were well represented in the 400m, as four competitors finished among the top-ten, paced by Thomas Corel, who shattered a 26-year old school record. Corel took second over with a time of 48.00. 
 
The mark surpasses Andrew Hepkins' time of 48.07, which he set back in 1996. Jason Marchese took fourth overall with a time of 49.09 while Joshua Cadet and Cyril Babcanec concluded the race in seventh and tenth, respectively at 49.89 and 50.27. 

Marchese went on to place sixth in the 200m, with a time of 21.94 while Eric Griffin rounded out the top-ten finishers in 22.40. Cadet and Griffin went eighth and ninth in the 100m, with times of 11.22 and 11.31 while Robert Guidicipietro placed seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:58.97. 

In the 1500m, three Seahawks were among the top-ten, led by Jean Uminski, who placed fourth with a time of 3:59.31. Teammate Michael Hubert was next at 3:59.89 while Dominic Palermo was eighth in 4:00.12. 

Kharlin Watkins soared 1.80m in the high jump for a ninth-place finish while coming in tenth in the long jump with a finals mark of 6.21m. 

Wagner will gear up for the Colonial Relays, which will take place on April 1-2 in Williamsburg, VA.
