Men's Lacrosse Set For Meeting With Monmouth To Close Out Season Opening Road Trip

West Long Branch, NJ- The Wagner men's lacrosse team closes out its season-opening three-game road trip against Monmouth at Kessler Stadium on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
 
 
LAST TIME OUT…   
WAGNER NOTES…
  • Stephen Dwyer recorded another multi-goal game for the Green & White against Manhattan.
  • Dating back to the final game of last season, Stephen Dwyer now has three straight games with multiple goals.
  • Dwyer has 12 career multi-goal games as a Seahawk and leads the team in points and goals (4).
  • Goalkeeper Danny Brady has passed Ian Gallagher for fifth place on the Wagner men's lacrosse all-time saves list after Saturday's game. The junior netminder now has 230 career saves for the Green & White.
 
FOR THE FIRST TIME…
  • Through two games, the Seahawks have had five players find the back of the net for either the first time of their career or first time in a Wagner uniform.
  • Freshmen Patrick Caldwell, Daniel Mercado, and Ethan Sieb have already scored their first collegiate goals for the Green & White.
  • DePauw transfer and graduate student Dan McCauley scored his first Wagner goal at Manhattan last Saturday.
  • Stony Brook transfer and graduate student Danny Cassidy scored his first career goal as a Seahawk in the season opener at Fairfield.

NEC RECOGNITION... 
  • Goalkeeper Danny Brady was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week after his 17-save performance last Saturday at Manhattan. 
 
 
  • It is the second time the East Windsor, NJ native has received this accolade in his Wagner career. Brady received NEC Defensive Player of the Week last April. 
  • The junior was also named NEC Prime Performer for the week. 
   
  • This is the second straight week a Seahawk has received NEC weekly honors. Freshman Ethan Sieb achieved NEC Rookie of the Week for his two-goal performance against Fairfield in his collegiate debut.
 
 

SCOUTING REPORT: MONMOUTH…
  • Monmouth entered this season as defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champions.
  • The Hawks were picked to finished first in the 2022 MAAC Preseason Coaches' poll.
  • Midfielder Garrett Klurman was Monmouth's lone member on the Preaseason All-MAAC Team.
  • Monmouth enters Tuesday's matchup at 0-2, falling to #18 Princeton in the season opener and #17 Delaware last Saturday.
  • Max Brooks leads the team as the only Hawk with two goals.
  • 11 different Hawks have netted goals this season.
  • Matt Soutar has been a force for the Hawks, collecting 17 ground balls and winning 27 faceoffs through two games.
  • Goalkeeper Noah Lode has been in net for a bulk of the season's action, making 29 saves. The fifth-year netminder is Monmouth's all-time saves leader. 
 
SERIES HISTORY…
  • Wagner's last victory in the series came in the first meeting ever on February 26, 2014. The Seahawks pulled out a 4OT 7-6 home victory in that game.  
  • The last meeting was on February 25, 2020 when Monmouth secured a 9-5 victory on Grymes Hill.
  • Wagner last traveled to West Long Branch, NJ on February 26, 2019 and dropped a 9-7 decision.
 
CURRENT SEAHAWKS AGAINST MONMOUTH…
  • Midfielder Stephen Dwyer has three career goals in two games against the Hawks.
  • Midfielder Tyler Lawton has one goal in one career game against the Hawks.
  • Goalkeeper Danny Brady made nine saves in his only matchup against Monmouth.
 
FAMILIAR FACES…
  • Head coach Bill McCutcheon spent five seasons at Monmouth as an assistant before coming to Wagner for the 2019 season.
  • Prior to his tenure at Wagner, Seahawks assistant coach Marc Zolchonock also served as an assistant at Monmouth in 2018 and 2019.

  • Tuesday's game in West Long Branch, NJ closes out Wagner's season-opening three-game road trip. The last time the Seahawks opened a season with three straight road games was in 2009.
