Piscataway, NJ – After opening the season in Virginia and spending last weekend at the USA Baseball National Training Center in North Carolina, the Wagner College baseball team returns to the Tri-State area as they will make the trek to Piscataway, NJ this afternoon to take on Rutgers at Bainton Field.
Seahawk Tidbits:
- Wagner went 1-2 against the Nittany Lions down in Cary, NC, taking the first-game of Saturday's twinbill, 1-0, behind six shutout innings from starter Ryan Lauk, who earned the win while sophomore John LaPointe tossed three scoreless frames in picking up the save.
- Cody Bey drove in the only run of the contest in the top of the third inning.
- Newcomer Henry Martinez notched the first multi-hit game of his Seahawk career in the opener Saturday, going 3-for-4 while adding a stolen base.
- Martinez leads the offense at .400/.471/.400 while senior Freddy Sabido has driven in five runs.
All-Time Against Rutgers:
- The Scarlet Knights lead the overall head-to-head series, 25-4-2.
- Last season, the Seahawks dropped a 11-10 contest back on April 3 at Bainton Field.
- The Green & White's last win against Rutgers came back on April 7, 2015, in which the Seahawks posted an 11-4 triumph at Bainton Field.

Sabido Earns First NEC Player of the Week Of 2020...
- Freddy Sabido claimed the season's first Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week award, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
- For Sabido, this marks the third time in his Seahawk career that he has earned the weekly accolade, as he closed out the 2019 campaign earning the final Player of the Week honor as well as collecting the citation back on April 2, 2018.
- Starting all three games out in left field, the 6'7" southpaw accounted for a .400 on-base percentage at the plate. He totaled four singles, two walks, two stolen bases, and a league-high four RBI.
- The Staten Island native hit safely in all three contests against Norfolk State, highlighted by some late-inning heroics in the series opener. Sabido capped off his three-RBI performance on Opening Day with a two-run single with one out in the ninth that tied the game at 10-10 before Wagner went on to take an 11-10 victory.
Eight Away From 200 For Carone...
- Ninth-year head coach Jim Carone is just eight wins away from becoming the second Seahawk bench boss to win 200 career games, as he would join former Wagner head coach, Joe Litterio, who finished with a program-best 240.
About Rutgers:
- When Wagner takes on Rutgers on Tuesday afternoon, they will see a familiar face in the opposing dugout, as former Bryant University bench boss, Steve Owens, embarks on his first season as the Scarlet Knights head coach.
- The Scarlet Knights swept its most recent series down in Florida, taking three from North Florida.
- Rutgers notched 37 runs over the weekend while hitting .377.
- Chris Brito leads the team with three home runs and he, along with Mike Nyisztor, have driven in eight runs each.
- Eric Reardon leads the way with three games worked this season while Parker Scott picked up a save at North Florida.

- The Seahawks head back South this weekend as they will travel to Virginia for three games.
