Staten Island, NY – The Wagner women's lacrosse team, winners of three straight and 11 of its last 12, will host Sacred Heart in a 1:00 p.m. Senior Day showdown at Hameline Field on Sunday in the Seahawks' final test before beginning defense of their Northeast Conference (NEC) championship. The Pioneers enter Sunday's matchup with a season record of 2-13, and a 1-5 mark in league play.
Wagner is 12-3 overall, with win number 12 on Thursday vs. LIU Brooklyn
setting a program record for single-season regular seasons victories. At 5-1 in the NEC, the Seahawks have secured the No. 2 seed in the 2019 NEC Tournament, which kicks off on Thursday, May 2 on the campus of regular-season champion Mount St. Mary's (6-0 NEC record, including an 11-9 win over the Seahawks).
The Green & White, led by first-year head coach
Michelle Tumolo, will meet the No. 3 seed in one NEC semifinal on Thursday, with the Mount set to host the No. 4 seed in the other semi. Heading into Sunday, Robert Morris sits third in the league standings at 4-2 while LIU Brooklyn and Bryant are 3-3 and in a tie for fourth place.
The two semifinal winners will meet for the NEC title on Sunday, May 4. Wagner has played in each of the last five NEC Championship games, all vs. Bryant, claiming the crown in 2016 and 2018.
