Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's lacrosse team will host the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets in a noon faceoff on Tuesday, March 5 at Hameline Field.
These teams generally match up during spring break week and this year is no different. When opening faceoff arrives, the Seahawks will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak, having most recently dropped an 11-4 home decision to Dartmouth on Saturday.
Wagner is 1-4 on the young season with the lone victory coming in the February 2 season opener,
a stirring 7-6 comeback win at Bellarmine, which ushered in the
Bill McCutcheon era with a bang.
Prior to last Saturday's loss to Dartmouth, the Seahawks' previous three defeats had come by three goals or less.
Led by fourth-year head coach Jon Birsner, VMI brings a 2-1 record into Tuesday's play, having played one common opponent and two future Seahawk foes. On February 16, the Keydets scraped out an 11-10 home win over a Manhattan that Wagner lost to by this very same score in Riverdale, NY on February 9.
After the Keydets defeated an NJIT team that the Seahawks will face in Newark, NJ on March 23 by a 15-8 count, VMI dropped its most recent game on Saturday, falling at home, 12-6, to Northeast Conference (NEC) member Mount St. Mary's, who the Green & White will host on April 13.
