Men’s Lacrosse Opens NEC Play At Hobart On Saturday

The Wagner men's lacrosse team will open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Saturday when the Seahawks travel to Hobart for a 3:00 p.m. faceoff against the Statesmen.

In Hobart, the Seahawks will be facing a 4-1 team whose lone loss was a 19-16 home decision to fourth-ranked Cornell. The Statesmen are receiving votes in the latest USILA Coaches poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media poll.Hobart, which holds a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series against the Seahawks, lead the nation in assists per game (12.00) and are second in ground balls per game (40.60), points per game (30.40), scoring margin (6.20), and scoring offense (18.40). Additionally, Hobart ranks fourth in the country in faceoff win percentage (.686), and ninth in team win percentage (.800).

Coming off a hard-fought 7-6 overtime loss to Quinnipiac last Saturday, the Green & White enter this weekend's play with a 1-6 record and looking to snap a six-game losing streak.

Defensively, the Seahawks are paced by their starting back line of defensemen, sophomore Kyle Stofko (22 ct, 13 gb), along with seniors Kevin Doherty (11 ct, 7 gb), and Connor Davis (5 ct, 10 gb).

For Stofko, his 22 caused turnovers in seven games computes to 3.14 per game, a figure which ranks No. 2 nationally.

Senior midfielder Riley Owens paces the Seahawks with 24 ground ball, along with 11 caused turnovers which tie Doherty for second on the team.

In goal, senior Matt Sefcik owns a goals against average of 10.01 (23 rd in nation), and a save percentage of .529 (29th in nation).

Junior Nick Warren is Wagner's primary faceoff specialist, and has gone 68-of-147 (.463) in the X.

Offensively, junior attack Dominic Branda leads the way with 16 points (12g, 4a), while a pair of Seahawks are tied for second with 13 points apiece in senior midfielder Spencer Kaufman (8, 5a), and senior attack John Norton (6g, 7a).

Checking in with eight points (7g, 1a each) are freshman midfielder Stephen Dwyer and junior attack Nic Ancona.
