Fastrack Season Opener (Results)
Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College men's indoor track & field team competed in its first meet of the season on Friday at the Fastrack Season Opener, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Senior
Noel Del Cerro and graduate transfer
Ben Finnigan each secured first-place finishes in the pole vault and the mile, respectively. Del Cerro, the defending Northeast Conference (NEC) champion in the event, cleared 4.80m while Finnigan clocked in with a time of 4:20.86.
Track Results
In the 60m,
Joshua Cadet and newcomer,
Miyaz Baynes, placed among the top-20 in the event, with Cadet placing 11th with a time of 7.04 while Baynes, competing in his indoor meet, checked in at 7.12.
Baynes also competed in the 200m and was a second off in tying the school record, as he recorded a time of 22.86. The program's record is 21.86, held by
Jordan Davenport, who accomplished the feat back on January 27, 2017 at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
Sophomore
Thomas Corel took fifth in the 500m, crossing the finish line in 1:04.80. Corel was .80 of tying the school record in the event, set by former Seahawk,
Quincy Rasin, who recorded a 1:04.00 at the 2016 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championship.
Senior
Alvin Sime was among the top-15 in the 800m, posting a time of 2:04.09 while sophomore
Mahmoud Abdalla finished 14th in the mile, recording a finals time of 4:44.52.
In the 60 Hurdles,
Josiah Cadet finished fifth with a time of 8.54.
Relay Results
The 4x400 squad, comprised of both Joshua and
Josiah Cadet, Corel and
Rob Ruspantini came in eighth out of 25 with a time 3:26.16.
Field Results
Sophomore
Corey Durden took home second-place honors in the shot put, recording a finals mark of 14.50m and was among the top-20 in the weight throw with a toss of 11.84m.
Joining Durden in the weight throw was sophomore
Michael Pepe, who placed fifth overall with a launch of 14.35m while newcomer
Adrian Pocesta finished eighth at 13.32m.
Junior
Andrew Ramsammy came in third out of 12 participants in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.95m. Classmate
Keegan Reidy took fifth in the triple jump, leaping 12.92m.
The Seahawks will host the Wagner College Shootout on December 13 at Ocean Breeze.
