Will Martinez added 10 points, none bigger than a traditional three-point play in overtime with 1:12 remaining that gave Wagner a 71-65 lead.
As a team, the gritty Seahawks held a 43-39 advantage on the glass and stayed mentally tough at the free throw line, going 39-48 (81.3%) as a team, including 16-19 (84.2%) in the overtime period to seal the victory.
The first half finished both teams battling back and forth, but it was a 10-1 Wagner run to close out the period that gave the Seahawks a 35-25 advantage at the midway point, which also marked their biggest lead of the game.
A three-pointer by
Alex Morales with 10:51 to play pushed the Wagner lead to 49-41, but the Peacocks fought back, tying the game at 53-53 with 6:18 to play and setting up the dramatic finish.
Despite the close finish, Wagner held the lead for 36:33 minutes, while Saint Peter's only led for 1:53 minutes throughout the contest.
The win also marked a homecoming victory for head coach and Jersey City native
Bashir Mason, who's traditionally tough defense held the opponent to 39.3% (24-61) from the field.
Next up, Wagner will play host to Stony Brook on Saturday, November 23, with tip-off set for 3:00 PM.
