Somerset, NJ – Wagner freshman pitcher Pat Gallagher was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Baseball Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

For Gallagher, this marks the first time in his young Seahawk career that he has garnered a weekly award from the NEC and becomes the second Wagner first-year player to receive a weekly accolade, joining teammate, RHP Mike Pirrotta, who earned NEC Pitcher of the Week honors back on April 9.

For the season, Wagner has now collected six weekly awards. Additionally, the Seahawks have has secured the weekly accolades in back-to-back weeks three times, the last occurring on April 2 and April 9 when sophomore designated hitter, Freddy Sabido, was tabbed Player of the Week on April 2 and Pirrotta collected Pitcher of the Week honors on April 9.

In the second game of a doubleheader vs. Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, Gallagher registered the first complete game of his collegiate career, not allowing a run over the full seven innings in the 4-0 Seahawk victory. The first-year righty gave up two hits, walked three and struck out a career-high six batters in picking up his third win of the season.

After issuing a leadoff walk to FDU's Brandon Seltzer in the top of the first, Gallagher set down the next seven batters in a row and did not allow a hit until the top of the fourth when the Mike Veit doubled to left field. Following the hit, Gallagher continued his consistency, retiring the next seven hitters he faced before Evan McDonald reached on an infield single to short.  Gallagher then got three straight groundouts in the top of the seventh in preserving the victory for Wagner.

In addition to Gallagher, sophomore designated hitter Freddy Sabido was recognized by the league as the Week 11 #NECPrimePeformer. Sabido was a key catalyst in helping Wagner secure the weekend sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson. Over the four-game span, Sabdio led the Seahawk offense with a .538 batting average, which included a pair of home runs on seven hits while driving in six RBIs.  In the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader, Sabido was the main focal point of the offense.

The towering 6-7 left-handed hitter went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and drove in three RBIs. The native Staten Islander belted a pair of homers in the contest, his fourth and fifth on the season. In the series finale on Sunday, Sabido, who manned first base, continued his hot hitting, as he finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. Sabido drove in the first of his three RBIs as he singled home Mascelli on a base hit to right field.

With the count at 1-1, Sabido delivered his second RBI of the day, sending a single to left field, which brought in Nick Mascelli. Wagner scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth as Sabido delivered his third RBI of the contest, singling to second as Mascelli crossed the plate for the third time in extending the Seahawk lead to 6-1.

The first-place Seahawks, who are 30-12 overall and 15-3 in league action, are back in action this weekend as they travel to LIU Brooklyn for a four-game set, beginning on May 4.
