DeLand, FL  – The Wagner baseball team continues its trip of the Sunshine State as the Seahawks square off against the Virginia Tech Hokies, of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) at Melching Field at Conrad Park on the campus of Stetson University.

ALL-TIME AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH:
  • Wagner and Virginia Tech are meeting for the first time in program history.

  • The Hokies are 9-7 against the current members of the Northeast Conference (NEC), last taking on Bryant in 2011.

LAST TIME OUT FOR WAGNER:
  • The Wagner baseball was shutout out by the No. 23 ranked UCF Knights, 12-0, in the series finale on Sunday in Orlando, FL.
  • Junior DH Phil Capra was the lone Seahawk with two hits on the afternoon while sophomore 1B Freddy Sabido had the only extra base hit for the visitors, a first-inning double. Freshmen Brandon Hall and Ben Montenegro each recorded their first collegiate hits in the contest.

ABOUT THE VIRGINIA TECH HOKIES:
  • Virginia Tech finished 23-32 overall last season and 9-21 in league contests.
  • Sam Fragale, who garnered Second Team All-ACC playing first last season, was tabbed to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) preseason All-America squad after he finished last season third on the team in hitting at .310 while pacing the ballclub with a .615 slugging percentage, 15 home runs with 63 RBI.

WELCOME TO THE 200-HIT CLUB, NICK MASCELLI:

  • The Clifton, NJ native, who went 1-for-3 on Saturday, added a hit in the series finale, to now be in a tie for eighth all-time on the Seahawk career hits, joining Nick Papa and Chris Dick, who finished their careers with 201 hits.
  • 2015 NEC Player of the Year and current Kansas City Royal prospect, Nick Dini, is the all-time hits leader at 245.
