Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team will play host to the Mount St. Mary's University Mountaineers in a key Northeast Conference (NEC) on Saturday, April 15 in a 1:00 p.m. faceoff at Hameline Field on ALS Ride for Life Day,
The Seahawks enter the contest with a record of 5-7, 0-3 in the NEC while the Mount is 4-6 overall, 1-2 in league play.
Wagner, under the direction of sixth-year head coach
Matt Poskay, a former All-American at the University of Virginia before embarking on an All-Star Major Lacrosse League career, is looking to match the program-record of six victories which they accomplished last season.
Earlier this season, Wagner won a program-tying three consecutive games, with the wins coming over Dartmouth, VMI and Hampton.
Junior attackman
Andrew Streilein (Lenape, NJ / Mt. Laurel), coming off a four-goal game at Robert Morris (4/8), leads the Seahawks in scoring with 30 points on 18 goals and 12 assists, with those 18 scores and 12 helpers also leading the team.
Junior midfielder
Joe Lomeli (Clark, NJ / A.L. Johnson), a transfer from NJIT, checks in with 17 points on 13 goals and four assists, followed by a pair of freshmen attackmen, Dominick Branda (Ringwood, NJ / Don Bosco Prep) and Nick Ancona (Warrenton, VA / Paul VI), who are tied for third on the team in scoring with 16 points apiece.
Branda's 16 points coming on 11 goals and five assists while Ancona has totaled 10 goals and six assists. Fifth-year senior midfielder
Paul DeVita (Westfield, NJ / Westfield) checks in a fourth on team in points with 15 points on 10 goals and four assists.
Sophomore
Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ / Morristown Beard) has made 138 saves and allowed 109 goals for a .990 GAA. Last time out at Robert Morris, Sefcik came up with a career-high 18 saves.
Junior midfielder
Nick Warren (Granby, CT / Granby Memorial / Mount St. Mary's) and senior midfielder
Anthony Labetti (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) split time at the faceoff X for Wagner. Warren is 54-of-110 for a 49.1 winning percentage while Labetti is 41-of-109 for a 37.6.
Athletic junior defender
Andrew Park (Kinnelon, NJ / Kinnelon) leads the Green & White in caused turnovers (25), as well as groundballs (35).
Following the Mount game, Wagner travels to Philadelphia, PA to meet the Saint Joseph's University Hawks for a 1:00 p.m. faceoff on Saturday, April 22.
