Piscataway, NJ - The Wagner men's lacrosse team (1-2) visits the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights (3-0) at 52,424-seat High Point Solutions Stadium on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in a contest that will be televised nationally on the Big Network. The Seahawks' season has been highlighted by one of the top wins in program history, a 9-8 victory over Lafayette on February 17. Wagner has also dropped a pair of hard-fought tests, at Monmouth (10-8) and at Manhattan (14-13) in triple-overtime.

25734The Seahawks, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Matt Poskay, are led by dynamic junior attackman Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape)  who has eight points on six goals and two assists, and junior midfielder Joe Lomeli (Clark, NJ / Arthur L. Johnson Regional / NJIT) who has seven points on five goals and two assists.

Junior Nick Warren (Granby, CT / Granby Memorial / Mount St. Mary's) is 14-of-31 on faceoffs, while sophomore Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ / Morristown Beard), the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week following a career-high 17-save outing in the win over Lafayette, has a .556 save percentage and a 10.19 goals-against-average.

Seahawks Seeking First Win over Rutgers
Rutgers is 8-0 all-time vs. Wagner in men's lacrosse. Last season, the Scarlet Knights came away with a 15-7 on Staten Island behind four goals from Jules Heningburg. The teams have met every year since 2009.

Sophomore attackmen Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Billy Martin scored two goals apiece, and freshman goalie Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ/Morristown Beard) came up with 10 saves, as the Wagner men's lacrosse team gave No. 16 Rutgers a battle before falling by a count of 15-7 at chilly Hameline Field. Playing without the services of starting attackmen Patrick McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and Billy Battaglia (Madison, NJ/Madison), each of whom were sidelined by injuries, the Seahawks fall to 1-3 on the season while Big 10 member Rutgers improved to 4-0. Jules Heningburg (4g, 1a) and Adam Charalambides (2g, 3a) led the way for the Scarlet Knights with five points each while Scott Bieda (3g, 1a) added four points on the afternoon.After a tight, defensive-minded opening quarter that saw Rutgers take a slim 2-1 lead, the Scarlet Knights outscored Wagner 7-1 in the second quarter in building a 9-2 halftime advantage. The Seahawks would get as close as six, at 10-4, following third-quarter goals by sophomore Christian McCormick and Martin, the latter off a feed from Streilein, before Rutgers answered with a 3-1 spurt in building a 12-4 lead en route to the 15-7 win. Senior midfielder Paul DeVita (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) finished with three points on one goal and two assists, while McCormick and redshirt-junior midfielder William McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) added one goal apiece for the Seahawks. Fifth-year senior defensive midfielder Michael McMenamin (Longport, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) led Wagner in ground balls with five, while freshman defenseman Riley Owens (Silver Spring, MD/St. John's College HS), along with sophomore defensemen Andrew Park (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Austin Wilson, (Havre de Grace, MD/Archbishop Curley) were credited with two caused turnovers apiece. Wagner held a 39-35 edge in shots while Rutgers posted a 37-31 advantage in ground balls and forced 18 Wagner turnovers while going a perfect 14-of-14 on clears. Wagner was 12-of-26 on faceoffs for the day with junior midfielder Anthony Labetti (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) having the most success in the circle, winning 9-of-15 chances. The Seahawks' extra-man unit had a productive day, going 3-of-5 on EMO's while the Scarlet Knights were 0-of-1 in this department. Kris Alleyne recorded 13 saves in goal for the Scarlet Knights before giving way to Alex Larson who came on to play the game's final 2:30.
