Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's basketball team is set to play the University of New Hampshire in its season opener on Saturday, November 18 in an 11:30 a.m. tip with the Seahawk men's team to host American University at 2:00 p.m.
All-Time History Against New Hampshire:
- This will be the ninth meeting all time between the Seahawks and the Wildcats and UNH has won all eight previous contests, including a a 70-43 home win on November 26, 2017.
Last Time Out For Wagner: Temple (November 16, 2017 - Lost, 70-36):
- Tanaya Atkinson scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Desiree Oliver added 18 points to lead the Temple women's basketbal to a 70-36 win over Wagner on Thursday night at McGonigle Hall.
- Temple jumped out of the gates quickly, building an 18-2 lead en route to holding a 39-14 edge at the half. Of Wagner's 14 opening-half points, fifth-year senior forward Sierra Clark (Hughesville, MD / Archbishop Spaulding / Adelphi) had 11, to go with a team-high seven rebounds. The other Wagner points in the first half came on a three-pointer by senior guard Tanasia Russell (Vineland, NJ / Vineland).
- Redshirt freshman small forward Taylah Simmons (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia / Canterbury Girls' Secondary) made her much anticipated collegiate debut. After sitting out the first two games of the season due to illness, the 6-0 Simmons checked into the lineup with 18:14 remaining in the first half.
- For the game, Clark, who tallied 22 points at James Madison on Sunday, led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs, in recording her first double-double of the season. Simmons was Wagner's second-leading scorer with eight points, to go with five rebounds, three steals and one assist in 30 minutes of action.
Scouting The University of New Hampshire Wildcats:
- UNH enters today's game with a 1-1 mark after dropping its season opener at Xavier, 71-66 on November 11 before knocking off Boston University at home by a count of 72-57 on November 15.
- Carlie Puque paces UNH with an 18.0 ppg. average while also leading the team in rebounds at 7.0 caroms per game. The senior center has scored 18 points in each of the Wildcats two games and is shooting a sizzling .654 from the floor (16-of-27).
