Somerset, NJ – Freshman goalie
Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ / The Morristown Beard School), who recorded 10 or more saves in nine games this season while helping lead the Wagner men's lacrosse team to its most wins in program history, was named the 2016 Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team, the league office announced this evening.
Sefcik recorded a career-high 15 saves vs. Saint Joseph's (4/2) while delivering three 14-save performances - in wins over VMI (3/8) and Sacred Heart (4/16), in addition to the season finale vs. Robert Morris (4/30). His stout play in goal played a pivotal role for Wagner (6-9), which bettered the previous program single-season record of four victories set in 2015.
For the season, the Garden State native, who held seven opponents to less than 10 goals, also recorded a .505 save percentage and a goals against average of 10.36 while registering a total of 153 saves.
On April 18, Sefcik, who logged 868:35 in net while gaining starts in all 15 games, was named NEC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Seahawks' 11-8 victory at Sacred Heart.
