Staten Island, NY – 12 Wagner track & field athletes garnered 2015 All-Northeast Conference (NEC) honors after impressive performances at this year's conference championship.
Women's Track & Field Senior middle distance runner
Emily Pereira (Howell, NJ/ Freehold Township) led the way for the Green & White capturing three separate honors.
Emily Pereira claimed first team individually in the 800m event as she posted a time of 2:13.78 at the conference championship to place first. The Garden State native was a member of both the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams which were awarded first and second team honors, respectively.
The All-NEC First Team 4x800 relay team included
Kelly Pereira (Howell, NJ/ Freehold Township),
Lorraine Brancale (Staten Island, NY/ St. Joseph Hill/ NYU), and
Victoria Spector (Yaphank, NY/ Longwood) alongside
Emily Pereira. The team raced to a first place finish at the 2015 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a mark of 9:21.49.
Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ/ Abraham Clark) and
Halima Diawara (Toms River, NJ/ Toms River NJ) joined the Pereira twins on the 4x400m relay which earned Second Team All-NEC honors after clocking in at 3:49.52 to claim second at the conference championship meet.
Men's Track & FieldThree Seahawks men's track & field student-athletes received All-NEC First Team honors while an additional two were named All-NEC Second Team and one garnered All-NEC Rookie Team honors.
Senior
Jacob Malakoff (Tasmania, Australia/ Friends), who provided fans with one of the most memorable images of the 2015 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, nabbed first team honors after grabbing gold in the 10k with a time of 32:39.75.
Fellow Australian native
Darius Moulton (Brisbane, Australia/ St. Josephs Gregory Terrace) received All-NEC First Team honors after sprinting to the quickest time in the 800m event with a mark of 1:51.56.
Moulton's mark of 1:51.56 also set the Wagner outdoor 800m record as he surpassed Daniel Zaccariello's time of 1:52.08 from 2012.
Senior distance runner
James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/ North Rockland) was awarded First Team All-NEC after racing to the front of the pack in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:31.18.
Two field athletes,
Matthew Kane (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham) and
Skylar Johnson earned All-NEC Second Team after placing second in the high jump and the pole vault respectively. Kane cleared 2.01m in the high jump while Johnson cleared 4.50m in the pole vault.
Freshman
Joseph Abbatiello (Fredericksburg, VA/ Stafford) earned All-NEC Rookie Team Honors in the 1500m event after posting a time of 4:05.29 to claim eighth at the conference championship, the top freshman mark.
