2015 Women's Lacrosse All-NEC Teams

Smithfield, RI – The Wagner women's lacrosse, under the direction of second-year head coach Liz Frisoli, has earned the No. 2 seed in the Northeast Conference Championship and will face No. 3 Mount St. Mary's tonight at 7:00 p.m.

The NEC Championship is hosted by the No. 1 seed's institution, which is Bryant (12-3 overall, 6-1 NEC ) for the second straight year, as the Bulldogs will meet No. 4 seed Robert Morris (10-6, 3-4) today at 4:00 p.m. in the first semifinal matchup.

The Seahawks, (8-9, 5-2) and Mountaineers (6-10, 5-2) will then meet at 7:00 p.m. with the winners set to square off for the 2015 championship on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

In the 2015 NEC opener for both teams back on April 3, the Green & White earned a 13-7 road win over the Mount. This is the first time the schools will be meeting in the NEC Championships.

Wagner is paced by junior Shea Gegan (Belmar, NJ/Manasquan), who was named the 2015 Northeast Conference Midfielder of the Year, in addition to earning First-Team All-League honors for the second straight year, while sophomore midfielder Amanda Rey (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township) was tabbed Second-Team All-NEC, in a vote of the conference's eight head coaches.

Gegan, the nation's leader in both caused turnovers (4.53) and ground balls per game (3.71) claimed four NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, in addition to being tabbed the Corvias ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Defensive Player of the Week for the week of April 15. Gegan enters the NEC Championship leading the team in goals (34), assists (23), points (57), ground balls (71), draw controls (42) and caused turnovers (63).

The 71 ground balls scooped up by Gegan are a Seahawk program record while her 63 caused turnovers are second all-time, just three behind the program mark of 65 that she set last season.

Gegan, who tallied five or more points in five different games, had a career-high 10 ground balls at Columbia (3/27) and a career-high seven caused turnovers vs. Temple (7).

Rey has also played an integral part on the 2015 Seahawk squad, finishing second on the team in draw controls with 41 while accumulating six caused turnovers and scoring two points. In a 19-10 victory over LIU Brooklyn (4/17), collected seven draw controls which matched the career high she first attained in a 14-9 victory over Lafayette (2/25). She also had five draw controls in a 19-10 win over Saint Francis U (4/12).

Wagner, which prides itself on a defense that has led the nation in caused turnovers per game of for the second straight season, also boasts power on the offensive end as the 2015 Seahawks feature eight players who have hit double figures in points.

The Seahawks' eight double-digit scorers include sophomore attack Olivia Streilein (25G, 10A), junior attack Stephanie Peterson (31G, 2A), junior midfielder Gretchen Fay (30G, 1A, 32GB, 26CT), junior attackers Kimmy Tumolo (10G, 11A, 22GB, 11CT) and Taylor Pastore (15G, 5A), and freshman midfielder Lauren Ednie (13G, 2A, 23GB).

In goal, junior Katie Ferraro has been stout all season and enters the NEC Championship ranked No. 6 nationally with a .500 save percentage, No. 15 in saves per game (8.75), and No. 19 in total saves with 140.

In Wagner's 13-7 win at the Mount earlier this season, in which the Seahawks burst out to aan early 6-0 lead, the Green & White received hat tricks from Fay and Peterson while Gegan supplied four assists. Fay, Peterson and Streilein scored two goals apiece in the first half as Wagner led 9-4 at halftime. Streilein scored twice during Wagner's game-opening 6-0 run, with both goals coming off of assists from Gegan.
