Free Live Video on necfrontrow.com I Live Stats

Staten Island, NY – The  Wagner men's lacrosse team continues its bid to qualify for the program's first-ever appearance in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament when the Seahawks host Sacred Heart on Senior Day at Hameline Field in a 1:00 p.m. faceoff today.

Both the Seahawks and Pioneers are in contention for an NEC playoff berth as the teams enter today's play with identical 1-3 league records which places them in a tie for fourth place. The top four teams in the seven-team conference earn a spot in next month's tournament.

Wagner brings a 4-7 overall record into today's game as the Seahawks are looking to break a three-game losing streak. Last time out, the Green & White dropped a heartbreaking 7-6 decision at first-place Hobart on a goal with one second remaining in the first overtime period. The Pioneers are 5-6 overall on the season.

Defense has been Wagner's calling card all season as the Seahawks are ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense, having allowed an average of just 7.64 goals per game. In goal, senior Anthony Peruso (Waldwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) also ranks sixth nationally, allowing an NEC-best 7.47 goals per game. Peruso is also ranked 10th nationally, and second in the NEC, with a 0.657 save percentage.

Junior defenseman Daniel Valencia (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) ranks fifth nationally, and second in the NEC, at 2.00 caused turnovers per game.
