Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Holy Spirit) allowed just two base hits in 6.2 innings of work and senior closer
Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) came on to record the game's final out in nailing down the save as the Wagner baseball earned a 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) in game one of today's doubleheader at sun-splashed Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
Adams, who recorded three strikeouts while walking seven, improved his season record to 3-1, while Bloodworth recorded his fourth save of the season.
In recording their second straight win over the Knights, coming on the heels of yesterday's 15-5 victory, the Seahawks improve to 4-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while evening their season record at 11-11-1. With the loss, FDU falls to 1-5 in league play and 7-14 overall.
Wagner pushed across all three of its runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior right fielder
Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI/Mukwonago) reached on a one-out walk which was followed by a single by freshman third baseman
Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]). A balk charged to starter Joe Flack, who went the distance for FDU, moved the runners up to second and third. After freshman second baseman
Phil Dickinson (Wenonah, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) walked to load the bases, senior centerfielder
Trey Nicosia (State College, PA/State College Area) drove in Yesko from third on a fielder's choice with the second out coming on a put out at second base.
Then, with runners on the corners, sophomore shortstop
Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) smashed an RBI double to right-center, scoring Mazzio from third. Nicosia also came around to score the third run on the play as right fielder Shane Siebler bobbled the ball for an error.
