Bakersfield, CA – The Wagner Seahawks baseball team dropped their second straight contest, falling to the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, 10-1, on Saturday evening from Hardt Field.
The Seahawks began the game with three straight hits that resulted in a Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro South) RBI single, plating across Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) for the lone run for the Green & White on the evening.
The Roadrunners garnered three runs in the bottom of the first as the visitors misplayed were charged with an error by third baseman Ruta. Mylz Jones of CSUB laced a single up-the-middle after seeing seven pitches from sophomore Nolan Long (Waterford, CT/Waterford (South Kent Prep)).
CSU Bakersfield added two more in the bottom of the second due to another Wagner error. The Roadrunners' Joey Sanchez lofted a sacrifice fly to right field scoring the fifth run of the game for the home team. The Roadrunners tacked on a run in the sixth and three more in the eighth.
Dini, who started in his 169 straight contest, was the lone Seahawk to record a multi-hits, as the senior finished 2-for-4 in the contest.
Wagner will have a chance for their first win of the season as they conclude their weekend series with the Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon.
