Staten Island, NY -
Mount St. Mary's completed a doubleheader sweep of Wagner with a 1-0 win in the second game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Click HERE for the game one recap.

Freshman RHP Nolan Long (Waterford, CT / South Kent) was outstanding in defeat, striking out a career-high six, against just one walk, over 7.0 innings while registering his first career complete game.

With the wins, the Mountaineers improve to 15-21 and 8-11 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 13-29 and 6-9 in the league.

The Green & White had its chances but stranded eight runners on the bases, including four in scoring position.

Wagner posted the first major scoring threat of the game in the top of the second as sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) was plunked with one out before junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) singled  to left field on the first pitch he saw from LHP Karl Lamont. Classmate Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) followed with a single through the left side. On the play, Lynn tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate by Zach Hostetter for the second out of the frame. Lamont then got the final out of the frame by inducing a routine fly to left.

Long, meanwhile, was a force on the mound over the first four innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits.

In the top of the fifth, the Mount broke through with what would prove to the only run of the game. Josh Lenig opened the frame by blooping a ground rule double down the left field line before moving to third on Tommy Quealy's single to right field. Andrew Frazier then plated pinch-runner Greg Hajjar with a RBI ground out.

After going down in order in the fifth, the Seahawks threatened to tie the game up in the sixth as senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) and junior Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) got aboard via one-out singles. Unfortunately, Mountaineer reliever LHP Nick Riley retired the next two batters to quell the threat.

Long then capped his outstanding performance with a 1-2-3 frame in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom part of the frame, junior Dan Wasilick (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) singled with one out before moving to second on a ground out but would get no closer as Riley struck out the final batter of the game, recording his second save of the day and the eighth of the season.

Smith notched his third-straight two-hit game of the weekend, finishing up 2-for-4 with a double to pace a seven-hit Green & White attack. Mazurkiewicz also matched Damian Csakai's four-year single-season school record when he was plunked for the 17th time and finished up the doubleheader 4-for-6.

Long (2-2) allowed just one run on four hits while Lamont (2-5) earned the win, striking out two while scattering four hits over 5.0 innings.

The teams will conclude their series with a 1:00 pm finale at the ballpark.
