Staten Island, NY -
It took almost 24 hours, but Wagner posted a 6-2 win over Sacred Heart after resuming Saturday's halted game this morning at 12:00 pm.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 17-29 and 9-9 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Pioneers fall to 22-24 and 9-9 in the league.

Wagner struck first with a run in the bottom of the second. Junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) crushed a one-out double to left field before classmate Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) plated him with a double down the left field line.

SHU battled back to tie the game up at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Jesus Medina led off with a ground rule double to left field before advancing to third on a fly out. Medina would then come around to score on Jayson Sullivan's infield single.

The Seahawks would reclaim the lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on Chris Smith's leadoff home run to left field.

Wagner would add to the lead with four more runs in the sixth thanks to a pair of back-to-back home runs. Yesko belted his first career home run, a three-run shot to left field, before Smith followed with his second home run of the game in staking the Seahawks to a 6-1 lead.

Then following the completion of the frame, the rain came and the heavy downpour rendered the field unplayable for the rest of the day, thus causing the halted game.

When play resumed at 12:04 pm on Sunday, Sacred Heart scored trimmed the deficit to 6-2 but was unable to get any closer as junior RHP Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ / Hunterdon Central) needed just seven minutes to close out the victory.

Senior LHP Matt Morris (Matawan, NJ / St. John Vianney) was outstanding in improving to 3-5 on the year, allowing just one run on four hits in 6.0 innings.

Smith and Yesko combined to go 4-for-6 with three home runs, six RBI and three runs to lead the way on offense.

Victor Sorrento was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the way for the Pioneers. Nick Morrissey (4-4) was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs over 6.0 innings of work.
