South Orange, NJ -
Seton Hall (7-22) jumped out to a 6-1 after four innings before holding off a late Wagner (5-20) rally en route to posting an 8-4 win in non-conference action at Owen T. Carroll Field.

The Pirates opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the third before senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) countered with his second home run of the year in the top of the fourth, a solo shot to left field.

Seton Hall immediately answered with a pair of runs in the bottom part of the frame, extending the lead out to 6-1 while chasing freshman LHP Brad Currao (Howell, NJ / St. Rose) from the game.

In the top of the sixth, the Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 6-3 on Chris Smith's (Sr., Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)) second home run of the season, a two-run blast to left-center.

One inning later, Wagner threatened to further dent the lead. Freshman Brendan Benecke (Jackson, NJ / Jackson Liberty) led off with a walk before junior Trey Nicosia (State College, PA / State College Area) reached via a bunt single. Freshman Evan Fardella (Bartonsville, PA / Pocono Mountain East) then moved the pair to second-and-third with a perfect sacrifice bunt. Pirate reliever Ryan Testani then notched the second out before freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) worked his way back from a 0-2 count to earn a walk and load up the bases. Unfortunately, the Green & White would leave them loaded as Testani got the next batter looking to quell the threat.

Seton Hall then extended the lead out to 8-3 in the bottom part of the seventh with a pair of runs.

Wagner would get one run back in the top of the eighth as junior Jason Gordon's (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) sacrifice fly plated Flynn while providing the final 8-4 score.

Flynn led an eight-hit Seahawk attack, going 3-for-4 with two runs while falling a hit short of the cycle. Mascelli also reached safely three times, going 1-for-3 with a run and walk before being plunked in his final plate appearance. Sophomore RHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Holy Spirit) was electric in relief, hurling 1.2 scoreless innings punctuated by striking out the side in the eighth.

Four different Pirates recorded multiple hits, led by Joe Poduslenko, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.

Freshman LHP Anthony Pacillo (3-0) earned the win, striking out two while yielding three runs on five hits over 6.0 innings.

Currao (0-2) was saddled with the loss, striking out two in 3.1 innings of work.

Wagner will next host Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, April 11 at 3:00 pm in the first of a four-game series at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
