Staten Island, NY - LIU Brooklyn broke open what was a close game with five runs in the third inning en route to posting an 11-1 victory over Wagner in the series finale between the teams at the LIU Field.
Led by freshman RHP Bobby Maxwell's complete game effort, the Blackbirds improved to 14-11-1 and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 5-19 and 2-2 in the league.
LIU Brooklyn opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on Pete Leonello's leadoff home run to right center.
In the third inning, the Blackbirds added to the lead with five runs, highlighted by John McAllister's two-run, bases-loaded single.
LIU Brooklyn added two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth in extending its advantage out to 11-0.
Wagner would finally get on the board in the top of the ninth inning. Freshman
Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) led off the ninth with a double before moving to third on a ground out. Mascelli then scored the lone Seahawk run of the game on
Nick Dini's (Jr., Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) RBI ground out.
Mascelli went 2-for-4 with his team-best ninth multi-hit game of the season while Dini reached base safely for the 13th straight game with his seventh-inning single to lead the way for the Green & White.
Leonello, McAllister and John Ziznewski, the Blackbirds' 1-3 hitters, combined to go 7-for-10 with nine RBI and seven runs to pace LIU Brooklyn's 10-hit attack.
Maxwell (3-2) earned the win, striking out four while yielding one run on four hits and two walks over 9.0 innings.

Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) fell to 0-5 on the year in defeat.
Wagner travels to Seton Hall on Wednesday, April 9 with first pitch slated for 4:00 pm.
