New Britain, CT -
Dominic Severino struck out seven over 7.0 scoreless innings while all nine regulars hit safely in lifting Central Connecticut to a 7-0 win over Wagner in the teams' series finale at the CCSU Baseball Field.

With the win, the Blue Devils improve 18-15 and 9-7 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 12-27 and 5-7 in the league.

CCSU struck first for three runs in the top of the first and was aided by three Wagner miscues before adding to the lead on Connor Fitzsimons' two-run single in the bottom of the third.

Severino was in command from the beginning and retired the first 14 Seahawk batters he faced before junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) singled with two outs in the top of the fifth. Sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) followed with a single of his own to push Mazurkiewicz over to third. However, the pair would be stranded as Severino induced an inning-ending grounder to keep the Green & White off the scoreboard.

Central Connecticut added to the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom part of the frame on a Pat Sirois RBI triple before Sirois would score on a balk, extending the advantage out to 7-0.

Wagner would again threaten in the top of the seventh as junior Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) drew a one-out walk. Gordon then advanced to second on a fielding error off a Mazurkiewicz fielder's choice grounder. However the duo would be left stranded as Severino capped his seven-inning performance by striking out the next batter before inducing an inning-ending fielder's choice grounder.

Gordon would double in the ninth but get no closer as Josh Ingham closed out second-straight Blue Devil shutout with a strikeout.

The Seahwaks recorded four hits and were led by Gordon, who was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Severino earned the win while sophomore LHP Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs, two earned, with four strikeouts over 2.2 innings.

Wagner returns to action at NJIT on Wednesday, April 30 at 3:30 pm.
