New Britain, CT -
Central Connecticut broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the bottom of sixth inning en route to posting a 4-0 over Wagner In Northeast Conference (NEC) play at the CCSU Baseball Field.

The Blue Devils improve to 17-15 and 8-7 in the league while the Seahawks fall to 12-26 and 5-6 in the league.

Central Connecticut loaded the bases up in the decisive frame before Connor Fitzsimons delivered a two-run bloop single to open the scoring. The Blue Devils would add to the lead with two more runs before Kevin Connolly closed out the Green & White with a perfect seventh.

For Connolly it capped 3.2 perfect innings of relief that saw the righty strike out two en route to notching his first collegiate victory.

Wagner had its chances, threatening over the first four frames, but was just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) led off with a single and advanced to second on junior Jason Gordon's (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) sacrifice but would be left stranded in scoring position.

CCSU put a pair of runners aboard in the bottom of the first but freshman RHP Nolan Long (Waterford, CT / South Kent) was able to evade any damage by inducing a routine grounder back to the mound for the final out.

The Seahawks would again threaten in the top of the second as Nick Dini (Jr., Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township), John Lynn (So., Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) and Dan Wasilick (Jr., Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) all singled to load the bases. However the trio would be left stranded as RHP Matt Blandino struck out the side to avoid any damage.

Wagner then notched a two-out rally in the third as senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) and Dini each singled before Blandino induced an inning-ending ground out.

In the top of the fourth, Wasilick singled junior Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) over to third on a successful hit-and-run while chasing Blandino for the game. Unfortunately, Connolly induced an inning-ending double play while shifting the momentum.

After the Seahawks went 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth, Central Connecticut posted its first major scoring threat. Jake Patton drew a one-out walk and was bunted over to second on a successful Bryan Rivera sacrifice. Following an intentional walk to J.P. Sportman, Blue Devils loaded the bases on Franklin Jennings' infield single. However, Long was able to avoid trouble by inducing an inning-ending fly out.

CCSU would then break through in its next trip to the plate with the aforementioned four runs on four hits and a pair of sacrifice bunts.

Dini and Wasilick each went 2-for-3 to pace a seven-hit Wagner attack.

Long (2-1) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing two runs on four hits with four walks over 5.0 solid innings.

Fitzsimons was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run to pace Central Connecticut.

The teams will conclude their four game series tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
