Staten Island, NY -
Alex Katz hurled six innings of no-hit ball to lead St. John's past Wagner 3-0 in non-conference action at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Katz, Chris Kalica and Joe Kuzia combined to allow just one hit as the Red Storm improved to 16-11 while the Seahawks fall to 3-17.

Despite recording just one hit, the Green & White drew five walks and had prime opportunities over the final three frames. However, each time the visitors were able to keep Wagner off the scoreboard thanks to double-play grounders.

St. John's opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Michael Donadio's infield single plated Robert Wayman for the first run. Zach Lauricella followed with a RBI single of his own while extending the Red Storm advantage to 2-0.

SJU would add to the lead with a single run in the top of the seventh as Alex Caruso's bloop double plated Lauricella to make it a 3-0 game.

The Seahawks would then threaten in the bottom part of the frame as junior Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) and senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) led off with walks. Unfortunately, Kalica induced an double play grounder and a dribbler back to the mound to evade damage.

One inning later, junior Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) led off with the first Green & White of the game but would be erased one out later on a double play grounder that ended the eighth.

Wagner would threaten one final time in the ninth as senior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)) led off with a walk but would be erased on a double play before Kuzia recorded a game-ending ground out to close out the game.

Katiz (1-1) earned the win, striking out five over 6.0 innings while Kuzia notched his third save of the season.

Freshman LHP Brad Currao (Howell, NJ / St. Rose) was saddled with the loss, allowing two runs over 4.0 innings of work.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, April 4 at LIU Brooklyn in the teams' Northeast Conference (NEC) opener with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
