Staten Island, NY -
DJ Roche's complete game shutout led NJIT to a 5-0 win over Wagner in the first game of a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

Roche was effectively wild, walking five and allowing five hits with nine strikeouts over 7.0 innings in improving to 3-1 on the year.

In defeat the Seahawks fall to 9-23 while the visitors improve to 11-15.

NJIT threatened to dent the scoreboard in the top of the second as Bryan Haberstroh and Scott Brosman each singled with two outs to put runners at the corners. However, senior LHP Matt Morris (Matawan, NJ / St. John Vianney) evaded the threat by inducing a weak fly to center for the final out of the frame.

In the bottom of the second, Wagner notched its first threat of the game as sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) led off with a single but was thrown out at second on a failed hit-and-run. Junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) then followed with a single but was stranded after Roche induced a routine fly and a ground out for to quell the threat.

After again threatening in the third, the visitors finally dented the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Teddy Bickert reached via a one-out error and was plated on Matt Weckerle's RBI triple. Weckerle would then come around to score on Mike Rampone's single against a drawn-in infield to extend the Highlander lead out to 2-0.

The Seahawks then threatened in the bottom of the sixth as senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) singled off the pitcher before Lynn followed with a bloop single. Unfortunately, Roche got the final two outs of the frame to keep the Green & White off the board..

NJIT added to the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh in extending the advantage to an insurmountable 5-0.

Roche then completed the shutout with a scoreless seventh inning.

Mascelli was perfect for the game, singling and walking three times while Lynn went 2-for-3 to lead a five-hit Seahawk attack.

Morris (2-5) was saddled with the loss, striking out six while yielding five runs, four earned, on 11 hits over 6.2 innings.

Eight of the nine NJIT regulars hit safely, led by Weckerle, who was 2-for-3 with two runs.
