Staten Island, NY -
Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Wagner 7-3 in the second game of a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark thanks to an offensive effort that yielded 14 hits.

The Knights improve to 7-17 and 1-6 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 7-21 and 4-3 in the league.

After both teams failed to dent the scoreboard for the first two frames, the Green & White finally broke through in the bottom of the third. Freshman Nick Mascelli (Clifton, NJ / Seton Hall Prep) and senior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Ellsworth CC (IA)) each singled to lead off the inning. Following an out, classmate Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC)) walked to load up the bases. Junior Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) then opened the scoring with a RBI ground out that plated Mascelli.

FDU would immediately answer with five runs on six hits in the top of the fourth while knocking Wagner RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) from the game. Matt McCann capped the scoring with a big two-out, two-run single that made it a 5-1 game.

The Seahawks fought back in the bottom part of the frame with a single score but the damage could have been greater. Junior Zack Yesko (Mukwonago, WI / Mukwonago) led off with a single before sophomore John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) was plunked. The pair then moved to second-and-third on a successful Dan Wasilick (Jr., Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) sacrifice bunt. Yesko would then come around to score when Mascelli's fly ball was dropped when a pair of Fairleigh Dickinson fielders collided while trimming the deficit to 5-2. Smith was then plunked to again load the bases and chase RHP John Chalupa from the game. Unfortunately, the Green & White would leave the bases loaded as Ryan McGrath induced a routine fly and a grounder to first to end the rally.

In the top of the fifth, the Knights added two more runs on four hits in opening up a 7-2 lead.

Wagner would get one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth when junior Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) RBI plated Smith with a RBI double to left field. However, that would be as close as the Seahawks would get as McGrath closed out the game with a perfect final inning of work.

Five different FDU players recorded multipe hits led by Ryan Brennan, who was 3-for-3 with a run.

Smith reached base safely in three of his four plate appearances to pace a five-hit attack for the Green & White.

McGrath (2-0) earned the win, striking out two and yielding one run on two hits over 3.2 innings of relief.

Marsh (2-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.

Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson will wrap up their series tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
