Army Posts 8-1 Victory Over Wagner In Game Two

RHP Gunnar Carroll twirled 8.0 scoreless frames in leading Army to an 8-1 win over Wagner in the second game of a doubleheader at MCU park while salvaging a split for the Black Knights.

With the split, the Seahawks are now 1-8 with Army improving to 7-5.

The Black Knights opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Jon Crucitti led off with a triple before later scoring on a RBI ground out and would add to the lead one inning later on Grant Van Orden RBI single.

Army added to the lead with three unearned runs in the sixth inning before putting up another three-spot in the eighth inning.

The Green & White got on the board when junior Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) plated senior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Ellsworht CC (IA)) with a sacrifice fly to provide the final 8-1 score.

Senior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Burlington CC) paced a six-hit Wagner attack, going 2-for-3 with a walk while reaching base for the seventh game in a row.

Crucitti went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two triples to lead the way for the Black Knights.

Sophomore LHP Paul Mammino (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough) allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits over 5.1 innings in falling to 0-2 on the season. Carroll struck out three while scattering four hits in moving to 2-0.

The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday, March 11 against Rider at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
