Staten Island, NY – The Wagner men's lacrosse team will play host to the Hawks of Monmouth on Wednesday at Hameline Field with faceoff set for 3:00 pm.
Both teams enter the games with 0-1 records. The Seahawks , under the direction of third-year head coach
Matt Poskay,
opened the 2014 season on February 18 with a 20-5 home loss to Rutgers. Junior midfielder
Cory Santor (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) scored two goals to head a list of four different Wagner players who found the cage in the lid-lifter.
The Hawks are in their first season as a Division I lacrosse program and thus will be playing the second men's lacrosse game ever when they tangle with the Seahawks.
In Monmouth's inaugural game, on February 22,
the Hawks were competitive in a 10-8 road loss to an established UMBC program. Monmouth, with a roster that features 32 freshmen, was paced by freshman attackman Dan Bloodgood, who scored three goals and added an assist.
Monmouth, which competes in the MAAC, is led by head coach Brian Fisher, a former assistant at Notre Dame and at his alma mater, Rutgers, where he was a top midfielder for the Scarlet Knights prior to his 2001 graduation.
