Box Score / Box Score (PDF)

Staten Island, NY -
Mount St. Mary's erupted for five runs in the fifth inning en route to posting a 10-4 come-from-behind victory over Wagner in the second game of a doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.

The Seahawks, which won game one by an 8-7 count, fall to 22-24 and 14-9 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Mountaineers improve to 10-29  and 5-18 in the league.

Mount St. Mary's opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, before Wagner answered with an unearned run in the bottom part of the frame. Junior Ian Miller (Downingtown, PA / Bishop Shanahan) led off with a triple down the left field line, before coming around to score on a two-out error.

The Seahawks would continue to fight and used a two-out rally to take their first lead in the bottom of the third inning.  Senior Jayson Keel (Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) got things started with an infield single, before Shaun Flynn (Jr., Tabernacle, NJ / Seneca / Burlington CC) and Tommy Mazurkiewicz (So., Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) each drew walks. Sophomore Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) then drilled a double to right field, plating Keel and Flynn while staking the Green & White to a 3-2 lead.

However, the lead would be short-lived as the Mount struck for five runs in the decisive fifth frame. Sam Nott opened the scoring with a three-run shot to left field, before Tom Healy followed with a solo shot to right field. The Mountaineers would tack on another run en route to building what would prove to be an insurmountable 7-3 advantage.

Mount St. Mary's would add three more insurance runs in the sixth, before Wagner got one back in the seventh inning to provide the final 10-4 count.

Miller notched his fourth-straight and team-leading 21st multi-hit game, finishing up 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base, while sophomore Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) and Keel also recorded a pair of hits.

Nott homered and drove in four runs while Healy finished up 3-for-4 with three runs and homer to pace a 15-hit Mountaineer offensive attack.

Scott Nickerson improved to 3-5 with the win, striking out seven while allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits over 6.0 innings. Freshman LHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor Township, NJ / Holy Spirit) fell to 2-6 in defeat, striking out five while allowing six runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings.

The teams will conclude their series tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
