Staten Island, NY - Fueled by a three-run fourth inning, Bryant defeated Wagner 4-1 in the second game of today's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
The Bulldogs, which won game one by a 2-1 count, improve to 39-15-1 and 26-5 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 24-30 and 16-15 in the league.
LHP John Healy struck out three and allowed three hits and an unearned run over 6.0 sharp innings of work in improving to 8-1 on the year.
After Healy and freshman RHP
Mike Adams (Absecon, NJ / Egg Harbor Township) traded zeros over the first three frames, Bryant broke through with three runs in the top of the fourth. Kevin Brown led off with a walk, before moving to third on a pair of wild pitches. After John Mullen walked, Dan Muscatello plated Brown with a RBI fielder's choice to open the scoring. A Green & White miscue then allowed Carl Anderson to score the second run of the frame. Later in the frame with two outs, pinch hitter Dan St. George scored Muscatello with a bloop single to right field.
Wagner finally dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when sophomore
Dan Wasilick (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) plated classmate
Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) with a RBI single to left field.
Bryant immediately got that run back in the top of the sixth when Carl Anderson scored on an Adam Claire sacrifice fly to right field.
Down but not out, the Seahawks threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Mazurkiwicz led off with a single, before senior
Jayson Keel (Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) drew a walk and Wasilick was plunked. Unfortunately, Bulldog reliever Joseph Michaud induced a grounder back to the mound which set up a 1-2-3 double play. Michaud then closed out his second save of the year by coaxing a grounder to third for the final out.
Adams (2-8) was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing just three runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings of action.
Both teams recorded just four hits with freshman
Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ / West-Windsor Plainsboro South) notching the lone extra-base hit of the game, a fourth-inning triple to left field.
The teams will close out the regular season with a single game tomorrow starting at 1:00 pm. Prior to the game, Wagner will honor its four-person senior class of
Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep),
Dakota Dvorak (Pompano Beach, FL / North Broward Prep),
Chase Gray (Toms River, NJ / Toms River South / Seton Hall) and Keel.
