Seahawks Complete Doubleheader Sweep With 10-0 Over FDU

Box Score / Box Score (PDF) / Nick Dini Postgame Interview

Staten Island, NY -
Wagner scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back in rolling to a decisive 10-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson in the second game of today's doubleheader at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks, which claimed game one by an 8-3 count, have now won eight-straight and are 12-14 and 5-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC).

The eight-game winning streak is the longest in school history, bettering the previous mark of seven set during the 1989 season.

Sophomore Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) led the Green & White's 12-hit attack, finishing up 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs and four RBI while driving in a run in all four of his at-bats. On the mound, freshman RHP Mike Adams (Egg Harbor, NJ / Holy Spirit) struck out two and allowed just two hits over 5.0 innings in securing his first career victory.

Wagner started quickly in the bottom of the first inning, plating four runs while sending nine batters to the plate. Junior Ian Miller (Downingtown, PA) led off with a single to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Miller then stole second, before classmate Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom / Ellsworth CC (IA)) drew a walk. After a meeting on the mound, the duo executed a successful double steal with Miller taking home on a throwing error by the catcher. Smith scored the second run of the frame when Dini reached via an error. Dini then continued the Seahawks' thievery on bases with the fourth steal of the inning. Senior Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep) moved Dini to third with a bloop single. Junior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Seneca / Burlington CC) then chased home Dini with a sacrifice fly to make it a 3-0 game. Later in the frame, freshman Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ / West-Windsor Plainsboro South) made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly that brought around Alfano while capping the scoring.

Dini added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning with his first home run of the year, a solo shot to left field that extended the lead out to 5-0.

The Green & White continued its solid play on offense in the bottom of the third. Senior Jayson Keel (Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) crushed a one-out triple, before scoring on a Tommy Mazurkiewicz (So., Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) ground out.

Wagner's lead would grow to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Miller singled with one out, before stealing second and would come around to score on Dini's two-out RBI single to center.

The Seahawks would cap the scoring one inning later with three runs while batting around for the second time in the game. Sophomore Dan Wasilick (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) led off with a walk. Smith then pushed the lead out to 8-0 with a one-out RBI triple, before coming around to score on a Dini single, his third hit of the game. Wasilick would come around to score on a one-out Smith triple. Mazurkiewicz then capped the scoring with a RBI single of his own while providing the final 10-0 tally.

Miller had another big game with two hits, two runs and three stolen bases while recording his team-leading 11th multi-hit game of the year. Keel and Mazurkiewicz each added two hits to round out the multi-hit performers for the Green & White.

Adams (1-3) and freshman RHP Nathan Hunt (Kirtland, OH / Hawken School) combined to limit the visitors to just two hits in leading Wagner to its fourth shutout win of the year.

The Seahawks will look for their second-straight series sweep in tomorrow's 1:00 pm series finale.
