Last Time Against The Red Storm
Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Seahawks responded with three runs in their last trip to the plate, before stranding the would-be tying run 90 feet from home.
Did You Know?
That last meeting between the teams was played exactly one year ago today at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Against The Big East
The Green & White is 1-0 against the Big East this season, having previously defeated Villanova in the season opener by a 5-4 count in extra innings.
All-Time Against St. John's
Wagner is just 9-54, all-time, against St. John's, but has posted wins over the Red Storm in 2008 and 2010. Additionally, the Seahawks are just 1-24, all-time, when playing in Jamaica, NY.
The Only Time ...
That the Green & White defeated St. John's on the road came on April 11, 1978 by a 5-4 score. Since then, the Red Storm have won 14-straight games.
54 Years Ago Today
The teams met with St. John's defeating Wagner 9-2 in Staten Island.
Coaching Comparison
Red Storm head coach Ed Blankmeyer is in his 18th season in Jamaica and collected his 600th win on Monday. Seahawk head coach
Jim Carone is in year two at the helm of the Seahawks and won his 30th game on Saturday.
Green & White Register Historic Sweep Of Saint Peter's
Wagner recorded the first-ever non-conference three-game series sweep in program history after taking all three games against the Peacocks. The Seahawks scored the first 21 runs of the series, before holding off a late-charging SPU squad in games three.
Bye Week Bliss
Over the last three years, the Green & White is an impressive 9-1 during its annual bye week from Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
Saint Peter's Series Wrap-Up
Wagner has now won four-straight and six-of-eight against Saint Peter's, including going 6-1 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
A Tale Of Two Teams
The Seahawks hit a blistering .519 (14-of-27) with runners in scoring position last weekend while the Peacocks batted a paltry just .105 (2-of-19).
Season-Highs
Wagner posted a season-high 13 runs and 19 hits in their 13-0 game-two victory, led by junior
Ian Miller, who recorded a career-best matching four hits and a career-high five RBI.
Interesting
In the Seahawks' aforementioned 13-0 win, all 19 of their hits were singles.
Mound Dominance
On the mound, starting pitchers junior LHP
Matt Morris, junior RHP
Ryan Casey and freshman LHP
Paul Mammino combined to go 3-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA over 16.0 scoreless frames. Additionally, sophomore RHP
Anthony Battaglia picked up two saves with 3.0 scoreless innings of work.
Miller Honored
Miller was named the NEC
College Sports Madness NEC Player of the Week after batting a team-best .667 (8-of-12) against Saint Peter's with seven RBI.
Finally
Morris struck out three over 4.0 scoreless frames to earn his first career collegiate win in the Green & White's series-opening 1-0 victory. The Garden State native missed most of his freshman season and all of last year due to injury.
Connor Smith Continues Solid Play
Sophomore RHP
Connor Smith continued his fine pitching of late with 3.0 steller innings of relief in relief of Morris and has now spun 10.0 scoreless innings over his last two outings.
Casey On The Mound
Casey notched his sixth career complete game and his first shutout with a dominating 7.0 innings performance in Wagner's 13-0 game-two win over Saint Peter's.
Long Time Coming
The Seahawks' shutouts in both ends of Thursday's doubleheader marked the first time since April 26, 2008 at Mount St. Mary's that the Seahawks posted shutouts in both ends of a doubleheader.
Mammino Named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week
Mammino was the epitome of efficiency as he shut down the Saint Peter's in Saturday's series finale to move to 3-0 on the year. The rookie southpaw needed only 47 pitches to complete 5.0 scoreless innings as the pitcher of record in Seahawks' aforementioned victory. While on the hill, Mammino allowed only two Peacock players to reach base (single, walk) and neither made it past first and faced the minimum number of batters (15) over his 5.0 frames of work. Mammino (3-0) has scattered just five hits over his last three outings - which have spanned 11.0 scoreless innings - and has limited hitters to a paltry .212 average while recording a team-best 1.88 ERA over 28.2 innings.
With One More Win ...
Mammino would become the first Green & White rookie to win his first four decisions since Jack Rice started out 4-0 in 2008.
Miller Domination
With hits in all three games last week, Miller extended his hitting streak to 11 games, during which time the Keystone State native is batting .442 (19-of-43) with nine runs, 12 RBI and seven stolen bases. During the streak, Miller has seen his average rise 99 points to its current .333 mark. On the year, Miller leads the team with 16 RBI, 13 runs, 18 stolen bases and eight multi-hit games.
Lucky Number Three
Junior
Chris Smith notched his team-leading third three-hit game of the year against Saint Peter's - highlighted by a pair of doubles - and is hitting a team-best .347 while reaching base in 20 of the Wagner's 22 games. The two doubles were also the only extra-base hits for the Seahawks on the weekend.
Defense
The Wagner outfield unit of seniors
Jayson Keel,
Nick Alfano and Miller all recorded at least one putout from their respective outfield positions in the Seahawks' three-game sweep of Saint Peter's.
Non-Conference Notes
After dropping 12 of its first 14 non-conference games, the Seahawks have won four-straight non-league games, highlighted by three shutouts. During that time, Wagner is hitting .333 while posting a 0.79 ERA en route to outscoring the opposition by a 27-5 count.
Closing It Out
Battagalia has recorded a save in each of his last three outings and has seven for his career, ranking fourth in school history.
At The Ballpark
Wagner holds an all-time record of 76-39 (.661) at R.C.B.B. since the program began calling the stadium home for the 2008 campaign. Additionally, the Seahawks are 49-28 (.636) during NEC games and 24-11 (.686) in non-conference match-ups.
Steal City
The Seahawks have 358 stolen bases over the last four years while leading the conference each season and this year has been no different. The Green & White is again at the top of the league rankings with 40 stolen bases (52nd NCAA) in just 22 games. At its current rate of 1.81 steals per game (25th NCAA), Wagner would finish with 100 steals while bettering the previous record of 98 set in 2010. All told, since the start of the 2009 campaign the Seahawks are 398-for-508 on stolen base attempts.
Bailey On The Bump
2006 Wagner College graduate
Andrew Bailey made his 2013 debut for the Boston and struck out Kevin Youkilis on a 95 mph fastball to help the Red Sox to a 8-2 win over the New York Yankees.
2013 NEC Poll
Bryant was tabbed first with CCSU second, Monmouth third, Sacred Heart fourth, LIU Brooklyn fifth, Wagner sixth, FDU seventh, Quinnipiac eighth and the Mount ninth.
NEC In The Major Leagues
Joining
Andrew Bailey in the Major Leagues from the Northeast Conference (NEC) is former CCSU hurler Evan Scribner (Oakland A's) and former Monmouth pitcher Brad Brach (San Diego Padres).

The Seahawks will welcome FDU to Staten Island this weekend for a four-game series, beginning on Friday, April 5 at 3:00 pm.
