O'Rourke Breaks Wagner Single-Game Goal Record In 11-10 Loss To Quinnipiac

Hamden, CT - Senior Colin O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/ St. John's Shrewsbury) shattered the Wagner single-game goal record, scoring seven goals while leading a Seahawk comeback effort that ultimately fell just short in an 11-10 loss to NEC foe Quinnipiac on Saturday at the QU Lacrosse Turf Field. In the defeat, Wagner falls to 1-11 and 0-4 in NEC play, while the Bobcats improve to 6-6 and 3-1 in conference action.

Five of O'Rourke's seven goals came in a wild second half, with the seventh and final goal bringing the Seahawks back from down 6-0 to knotting the game at 10-10 with 1:43 to play. Quinnipiac would regain the lead with just 1.8 seconds on the clock, as the Bobcats' Dylan Webster notched the deciding tally.

After finding themselves in an early six-goal hole at the final whistle of the first quarter, the Seahawks would begin the comeback bid on a pair of goals by freshman Billy Battaglia (Madison, NJ/ Madison) to make the score 6-2 with just under eight minutes to play in the half.

Quinnipiac would get one back before O'Rourke scored his first two goals of the contest in a span of 2:13, bringing Wagner to within 7-4 as the teams exited the turf for halftime.

The teams would each score two goals in the third quarter, with O'Rourke and freshman Griffin Leclaire (White Rock, British Columbia/ Toronto Hill Academy) keeping the deficit at three goals heading into the final quarter.

O'Rourke would score his fourth and fifth goals of the game in the first 4:39 of the fourth quarter, pulling the Green & White to within 9-8. The Bobcats would answer back to extend the lead to 10-8 before O'Rourke struck twice more, evening the game at 10-10 with 1:43 to play.

Quinnipiac would score the game-winning goal with 1.8 seconds remaining, as the Bobcats ran a set play off a timeout to free Webster for the final tally.

Junior goalie Nicholas Gibaldi (Rocky Point, NY/ Rocky Point) made 13 stops in net for the Green & White, including six in the 10 attempts on the cage in the second half.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Apr. 27 for their final game of the 2013 season, a 1:00 pm tilt against Mount St. Mary's at Hameline Field. Senior Day ceremonies will take place prior to the opening faceoff.
