Box Score / Box Score (PDF)

Jersey City, NJ -
Saint Peter's scored seven third-inning runs en route to posting a 12-8 win over Wagner in non-conference action at Jaroschak Field. With the win, the Peacocks improve to 12-19 while the Seahawks fall to 13-20.

Graduate student Chase Gray (Toms River, NJ / Toms River South / Seton Hall) paced a 15-hit Wagner attack, going 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and a walk while extending his hitting streak to eight games.

The Seahawks opened the scoring with a pair of first-inning runs as Gray singled with one out, before being plated on sophomore Nick Dini's (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township) run-scoring triple down the right field line. Dini would then come around to score the second run of the inning on Jayson Keel's (Sr., Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) sacrifice fly to deep left.

After Saint Peter's scored a run in the bottom part of the frame, the Green & White answered with a Dini sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning.

The Peacocks responded with seven runs while sending 12 batters to the plate in bottom part of the frame in assuming an insurmountable 8-3 lead.

Wagner answered with three runs in the top of the fourth inning while batting around to trim the deficit to 8-6. The Seahawks had an opportunity to further dent the lead, but left the bases loaded.

In continuing the back-and-forth theme, Saint Peter's extended the lead out to 12-6 with three runs in the bottom part of the frame, before adding one in the seventh.

After leaving the bases loaded in the fourth, sophomore Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) delivered in the top of the eighth with a two-run, two-out, bases loaded single to left field that trimmed the deficit to 12-8.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Seahawks appeared poised to mount a comeback as Trey Nicosia (State College, PA / State College Area) and freshman Ben Ruta (West Windsor, NJ / West-Windsor Plainsboro South) reached via infield singles.

Joining Gray with multiple hits were Dini (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), junior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Seneca / Burlington CC) (2-for-5, run) and Nicosia (2-for-5, run, RBI).

After allowing 11 runs over the first four innings, the threesome of senior RHP Nick Alfano (Coral Springs, FL / North Broward Prep), freshman RHP John Lynn (Wallingford, PA / Salesianum School (DE)) and sophomore RHP Anthony Battaglia (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) quieted the Peacocks over the final four innings, striking out six while yielding just one run.

Brian Schroeder led Saint Peter's, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI.

Peacock LHP Adam Purcilly (1-0) earned the win, yielding six runs, five earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts over 7.0 innings. Sophomore RHP Steven Bloodworth (Annandale, NJ / North Hunterdon) yielded seven runs, two earned, in being saddled with the loss.

Wagner returns to action against Central Connecticut on Friday, April 18 at 3:00 pm.
