Box Score / Box Score (PDF)

Staten Island, NY -
Wagner dropped a 12-5 decision to Seton Hall in non-conference action at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Seahawks stranded 14 runners on the bases, including leaving the bases loaded three times, in falling to 12-16 while the Pirates improve to 16-14.

Junior Chris Smith (Tampa, FL / Freedom / Ellsworth CC) led a 12-hit Green & White attack, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Sophomores Nick Dini (Monroe Township, NJ / Monroe Township), Jason Gordon (Baltimore, MD / Archbishop Curley) and Tommy Mazurkiewicz (Neshanic Station, NJ / Somerville) each notched a pair of hits while senior Jayson Keel (Starkville, MS / Starkville / Holmes CC) drove in two runs to round out the top performers on offense for Wagner.

Seton Hall opened up the scoring with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second inning. With one out, Sal Annunziata scored the game's first run on Dillon Hamlin's sacrifice bunt. Zack Granite then plated Jon Beaubien with a RBI double to left field while extending the lead out to 2-0.

The Pirates then batted around in pushing the lead out to 5-0 with three runs the next time up.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Seahawks got one of those runs back. Gordon led off with a single up the middle, before moving to second on junior Ian Miller's (Downingtown, PA / Bishop Shanahan) sacrifice bunt. After advancing to third on a balk, Gordon scored on a Smith sacrifice fly to deep center, trimming the deficit to 5-1.

After Seton Hall added three runs to the lead in the top of the fourth, Wagner responded with a two-out rally in the bottom part of the frame. Junior Shaun Flynn (Tabernacle, NJ / Seneca / Burlington CC) drew his second-straight walk, before Mazurkiewicz singled him to third. Gordon then smoked a single to right that plated Flynn. The Seahawks appeared poised to further dent the lead, but Miller smoked a liner with the bases loaded that was corralled by Chris Selden at third for the final out.

The Pirates lead would grow to 11-2, before the Green & White scored a pair of runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to close the gap to 11-5. Seton Hall would cap the scoring with a ninth-inning run while providing the final 12-5 tally.

LHP Anthony Elia (3-2) earned the win, striking out four while scattering two runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings of work.

Sophomore RHP Connor Smith (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell) fell to 1-3 on the year, allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits over 2.2 innings.

Granite went 1-for-3 with four walks, four stolen bases, two runs and two RBi to lead the way for Seton Hall.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, April 12 at Monmouth with first pitch slated for 3:00 pm.
