Seahawks Set To Open 2013 Season With Three Games In North Carolina

Under the direction of second-year head coach Jim Carone, Wagner will open the 2013 season with a three-game series at NC State. The Seahawks will take on Villanova this morning at 11:00 am, before facing the Wolfpack tomorrow and the the Wildcats again on Sunday.

There will be a live video feed (subscriber) for Wagner's game with NC State with live stats only slated for the neutral site games against Villanova.

Scouting The Seahawks (0-0)
The Green & White return 22 letterwinners from a year ago, led by junior Ian Miller (Downingtown, PA / Bishop Shanahan). The 2012 Second Team All-Northeast Conference (NEC) selection hit .312 a year ago with a team-best 34 stolen bases while also ranking among the league leaders with 64 hits, 39 runs, 27 walks and a .400 on-base percentage.

Classmate RHP Ryan Casey (Paramus, NJ / St. Joseph Regional) leads the returners on the mound. Casey started every conference weekend and went 4-4 with five complete games and a 5.81 ERA over 69.2 innings of work.

Scouting The Wildcats (0-2)
Villanova dropped its first two games of the young season by virture of a 7-6 setback to Monmouth last weekend and a 14-3 loss yesterday to NC State.

Senior shortstop Tyler Sciacca was a preseason All-Big East choice after hitting .359 last season. Junior starting pitcher Pat Young led the Wildcats in five different categories a year ago and will anchor the staff.

Scouting The Wolfpack (2-1)
NC State, which defeated Sacred Heart in last year's NCAA Tournament, is currently ranked 16th in the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll after splitting its first two games.

The Wolfpack are led by sophomore shortstop Trea Turner and sophomore pitcher Carlos Rodon, both consensus First-Team All-Americans last season. Turner hit .336 as a freshman and stole 57 bases while Rodon struck out 135 hitters in 114.6 innings in his rookie campaign.
