Manhattan Knocks Off Wagner In Non-Conference Lacrosse Action

Tyler Jarvis tallied six goals to lead Manhattan past Wagner 20-5 in the Seahawks' final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night.

The homestanding Jaspers came out strong, out-scoring the Green & White 7-1 in the opening quarter. Wagner's lone first-quarter goal was scored by senior attackman William Hedges (Shoreham, NY / Longwood) who netted his sixth goal of the season.

Fellow senior attackman Mike Hurley (Billerica, MA / Billerica) buried the first goal of the second quarter, the first of his team-high two goals on the evening, but the Seahawks trailed 10-2 heading into the halftime break.

Wagner also received one goal each from  junior midfielders Colin O'Rourke (Worcester, MA / St. John's Shrewsbury) and Nick DePhillips (Glen Ridge, NJ / Glen Ridge/ Ohio St. Univ.) while junior attackman Sam Morrissey (Long Valley, NJ/ West Morris Central) and junior defenseman Dustin Doty (Sherman Oaks, CA / Crespi Carmelite) each contributed one assist.

Wagner's goalkeeping duo of sophomore Nicholas Gibaldi (Rocky Point, NY / Rocky Point) and senior Peter Rubin (East Rockaway, NY / East Rockaway) combined for 17 saves, with Gibaldi accounting for 14.

For Manhattan, Ryan Payton supported Jarvis' six-goal effort with four goals of his own while Brendan Rogers came up with a game-high six assists to go along with one goal.

Manhattan held a 58-19 advantage in shots, a 35-28 edge in ground balls while winning 15-of-27 faceoffs. The Jaspers were successful on 5-of-7 extra-man opportunities while Wagner was 2-of-6.

With the victory, Manhattan, a former rival of Wagner's in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, improves to 5-5 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 0-10.

The Seahawks have four Northeast Conference games remaining on their schedule, as the team faces off next against Quinnipiac at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, in Hamden, CT.
